The Doomsday Machine[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog television series. It was a large and advanced machine that served as the control center of the Doomsday Project, whose aim was to destroy all life on Mobius.

Description[]

The Doomsday Project 112

A Doomsday Pod being produced, from "The Doomsday Project".

The Doomsday Machine is a vast machine that covers a large area. The Doomsday Machine's area is fenced and Swat-Bots guard the individual entrances. As such, only authorized units are permitted to enter its perimeters.[2] In the center of the Doomsday Machine lies its main part: a central metal tower consisting of several floors. The lowest level located in the Doomsday Machine is the Doomsday Pod production plant. There, the Doomsday Pods' metallic frames are immersed in a special substance that gives the Doomsday Pods their almost indestructible armor. Once finished, the Doomsday Pods are sent through a network of underground tunnels constructed by pipes connected to the Doomsday Machine's tower. These tunnels supposedly lead to the most important places on the planet for the Doomsday Pods to destroy.[1]

The other floors in the Doomsday Machine's tower are mainly operated by Tech-Bots. There are also various corridors in the tower where Dr. Robotnik has set up traps. The command center for the Doomsday Machine lies in a separate building next to the Doomsday Machine's tower. This command center features mainly monitors, as well as a window that allows one to observe the Doomsday Machine. The command center also has various hatches and elevators to get to different floors. The whole Doomsday Machine is powered by a huge generator, which is protected by a diamond glass cover that is almost indestructible. Below the generator room is also an industrial-strength Roboticizer specially designed for Sonic. In addition, various cables and pipes extend outside from the machine, and a small dome-shaped annex can be seen.[1]

As the Doomsday Project was well underway, Dr. Robotnik went over his plans to build the Doomsday Machine, whose task was to destroy all life on Mobius as its part in the Doomsday Project.[1][3] Soon after, Robotnik's forces began building the Doomsday Machine. While the Doomsday Machine was under construction, Dr. Robotnik personally arrived at the construction site to supervise the work. He soon after ordered Snively to send Fuel Tankers to the machine, but the Knothole Freedom Fighters sabotaged this operation. Robotnik subsequently returned to Robotropolis. In his absence though, Sally and Bunnie made their way to the Doomsday Machine onboard a Hover Unit of their own. Inside its parimeters, the girls were able to download the Doomsday Machine's schematics and the daily operations carried out by Robotnik.[2]

Special Roboticizer

Dr. Robotnik, Snively, and all of Robotnik's forces eventually went to the completed Doomsday Machine, leaving Robotropolis empty. With the Doomsday Machine operational, Dr. Robotnik activated it. The Doomsday Machine thus began sending hundreds of Doomsday Pods out across the world to destroy all signs of life. The Freedom Fighters soon after launched an attack on the Doomsday Machine. While the other Freedom Fighters deployed parachute dummies as a diversion, Sonic, Sally, Antoine and Bunnie snuck into the Doomsday Machine's site. Then, using Metal-eating Balloons, they created a breach in the Doomsday Machine and got inside. Though Dr. Robotnik knew about the heroes' intrusion, he wanted to toy with them, and so let them proceed. In the meantime, the Knothole Freedom Fighters snuck past some Tech-Bots. Afterward, they entered a corridor where Sonic defeated two head-shaped robots that wanted to burn him. Meanwhile, the Doomsday Machine's Swat-Bots captured Ari, Lupe, Polo and Dirk when they tried to access the Doomsday Machine through other entrances. In the end, only the the Knothole Freedom Fighters were able to reach the Doomsday Pod production plant. There, Sonic convinced his friends to return to Knothole Village since things were getting too dangerous here. After Sally gave Sonic Nicole, she, Antoine and Bunnie hijacked a Doomsday Pod and used it to escape the Doomsday Machine. Sonic soon after reached the Doomsday Machine's main generator and tried to destroy it with explosives, but it survived thanks to its diamond glass dome cover. Dr. Robotnik then appeared and threw Sonic into a Roboticizer. However, Sonic managed to overload the machine by pitting the energy of three Power Rings against the power of the Robotizer. Because of this, the capsule which kept Sonic contained kept rattling until it flew through the wall of the Doomsday Machine, allowing Sonic to escape.[1]

Sonic and Sally later returned to the Doomsday Machine and enter the generator room through an underground tunnel. Dr. Robotnik tried to stop them by sending his Swat-Bots, but they were too late, as the heroes proceeded to use the Deep Power Stones. Greatly empowered, Sonic and Sally quickly began destroying the entire Doomsday Machine. During the destruction, Robotnik's robotic forces managed to evacuate, as did the four leaders of the Freedom Fighters who had been caught earlier. Dr. Robotnik also tried to evacuate aboard his hovercraft, but he disappeared as the Doomsday Machine got destroyed. Snively, whom Robotnik did not take with him, hid instead in an elevator that went underground. After Sonic and Sally wiped the Doomsday Machine out of existence, they returned to Knothole Village. Shortly afterwards however, Snively returned to the surface and announcing his upcoming plan to rule. Meanwhile, a pair of red eyes gazed behind him.[1]
