The standard foot soldier for the Black Arms.

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Black Warrior[3] (ブラックウォーリアー[4] Burakku Wōriā?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a breed of the Black Arms. The offspring of Black Doom,[2] the Black Warriors form the standard soldiers of the Black Arms' army.

Appearance[]

The Black Warriors are humanoid creatures with the Black Arms' trademark jet black and crimson skin[5] and menacing yellow eyes.

Game appearances[]

Shadow the Hedgehog[]

In Shadow the Hedgehog, the Black Warriors formed part of the Black Arms that were sent to invade earth by Black Doom to destroy the planet.

In gameplay, the Black Warrior is one of the weakest enemies in the game, taking only two Homing Attack to be killed. They can be found in every stage, except the Black Comet and other stages that do not feature Black Arms. While commonly found on solid ground, they can also be found on Air Saucers in stages like Prison Island, hovering over toxic pools.

The Black Warriors are usually equipped with one of several types of weapons to use against the player, such as long-ranged firearms that continuous fire shots to disable their opponent permanently, or short-ranged swords which they use swiftly. Some Black Warriors are also armed with shields to block attacks alongside their weapons. Those shields, however, help them to block front attacks only, and cannot protect them from back attacks. Upon defeating an armed Black Warrior, the player can pick up their weapon and use it themselves. The weapons used by the Black Warriors include the following:

By using the Heal Cannon, the player can heal damaged Black Warriors. This causes them to not attack Shadow for a period of time and also fill up the Dark Gauge a little bit.

Being Black Arms, the Black Warriors grant 150 hero points and fill up the Hero Gauge a bit upon defeat.

Sonic Rivals[]

In Sonic Rivals, the Black Warrior appears as one of the collectible cards in the game.

Shadow Generations[]

The Black Warriors reappear in Shadow Generations, appearing throughout time and space, including Kingdom Valley. Like their debut game, they can wield weapons, such as Black Swords, and will attempt to charge at Shadow when near and are one of the few enemies that the Doom Blast can be used on. In addition, it would take fifteen hits to destroy a Black Warrior if the player performs a Boost towards it, Spin Jump on it or Stomp on it. Three of them attempted to attack a time-displaced Maria Robotnik in White Space, though Shadow saves her.

Personality[]

The Black Warriors never disobeyed the orders of Black Doom, acting mostly as mindless drones serving under the will of their leader.

Powers and abilities[]

The Black Warriors have the same basic traits of the Black Arms species. They have well-above strength as they can shatter obstacles and enemies. However, they are slow on their feet.

While they apparently do not think like a sapient creature, the Black Warriors possess advanced combat skills as they can use a wide range of weapons to exterminate their foes. They are shown be far more built for battle than humans to the point that they are unfazed by gunfire.
