Akari Shimizu

Akari Shimizu (시미즈 아카리) was a Japanese S-Rank Healer under the Draw Sword Guild.

Appearance 

Akari was a young woman with large light brown eyes and light orange-brown hair that she wore in two buns with neck-length hair strands hanging on either side.^[1] During the 4th Jeju Island Raid, she wielded a large yellow battle axe.

Personality 

Akari had a playful attitude and was somewhat greedy, as she refused to heal her teammates unless they paid her fee first. She was also implied to have feelings for her guild mate Kenzo, as she frequently teased him during their raids together. During the 4th Jeju Island Raid, she hinted at wanting something more personal than money from Kenzo for her healing.

History 

Four days before the day of the Jeju Island Raid, Akari met up with the rest of the Jeju Island Raid Party inside the Korean Hunters Gym. As a healer, she did not participate in any of the sparring matches, although she did show astonishment when Cha Hae-In demonstrated her speed against Atsushi Kumamoto.^[2]

During the 4th Jeju Island Raid, Akari was grouped with Kenzo and Tatsumi in Team Charlie and watched as Kenzo slaughtered a whole swarm of ants. After he returned with moderate wounds, Akari teased him by calling him a hot mess and saying that she wouldn't heal him unless he gave her something in return. However, before she could tell Kenzo what she wanted from him, she was suddenly decapitated by the Ant King.^[3]

Etymology

• The name Akari means "light" (あかり) in Hiragana. However, when written in kanji (明里, 朱里 or 朱莉), it could possibly mean:
  • 明里 - "bright, light, clear" (明) (aka) and "village" (里) (ri).
  • 朱里 - "vermilion red" (朱) (aka) and "village" (里) (ri).
  • 朱莉 - "vermilion red" (朱) (aka) and "white jasmine" (莉) (ri).
• Akari's surname Shimizu means "clear water/pure water, spring water" (清水).

• Akari's backstory is expanded upon in Hunter: Origin.
  • She awakened only two years before the events of the 4th Jeju Island Raid.
  • She has a younger sister named Shimizu, who is 13 years old. Unlike Akari, Shimizu is an ordinary human and was hospitalized after being diagnosed with Eternal Slumber.
