Gargamel sends a teddy bear who has a magic viewing stone in his eye to Baby Smurf and spies on the Smurfs with the help of a crystal ball. When they find it out, they make up a fake story to trap the evil wizard.

Part 1
In Gargamel's castle, the evil wizard puts a top of a small box on while saying it's "revoltingly cute". Then, he tells Azrael that the box holds the key to the lives of the Smurfs. While Azrael sniffs it, Gargamel goes to his crystal ball and through it tells the Magic Store Supply that he has a package to send to the Smurf Village, with the store saying it will send a stork for pickup. Gargamel then asks for an address, but the store says it is against their "policy" much to Gargamel's annoyance.
Meanwhile, it's a normal day in Smurf Village: the Smurfs going on about their everyday lives while Baby Smurf is sitting on a bench. He watches everything going on, such as Jokey being chased by a Smurf and Clumsy tripping over a bucket and falling into that bucket, to which Baby laughs at. Then, he sees a stork, who drops a small red gift box into the village. He crawls over to it and opens it, revealing a teddy bear as he hugs it. This particular teddy bear, however, has a magic viewing stone eye, showing it to be Gargamel with the bear. Gargamel shows Azrael his plan is working and tells him they can watch everything the Smurfs do. As he falls down from his seat from cheering too far, he is happy for the fact that he will soon be able to see the village.
In another part of the village, Chef is giving some Smurfs raspberry cake as Baby crawls over. Brainy sees Baby and picks him up and puts him on the table. Then, in the crystal ball, Gargamel sees Greedy munching on cream puffs while in the village, Brainy berates him for eating so much by saying his gluttony will bring him into trouble, as what Papa Smurf says (who has just showed up) while Brainy giggles. Papa then sees the teddy bear Baby is holding, with a Smurf saying it's the ugliest thing he's ever seen. Papa Smurf then says it's time to go to Lonely Rock to collect sarsaparilla. Gargamel hears him through the crystal and tells Azrael that they're going there too. As he is dancing (with Azrael's dismay), he hits a cage (to which Azrael laughs too). Gargamel says the cage is going to be filled with Smurfs. He hits it and it hits him back as Azrael giggles again.
Various Smurfs are now at Lonely Rock getting sarsaparilla while Greedy is eating all of his, calling it the "love of my life". Before Papa finishes telling Greedy to stop eating, he sees Gargamel and yells for everyone to run away. Greedy tries to run away, but he is captured by Gargamel. Papa hides under a tree watching Greedy get captured. Papa Smurf slingshots a rock at Azrael, scaring him and going on top of Gargamel and Greedy is set free as the Smurfs run off.
Later, the Village Bell is rung, gathering all the Smurfs together while Papa Smurf wonders how Gargamel knew they were going to Lonely Rock and Greedy knew Gargamel knew that he ate the raspberry cake and that Brainy is annoying. Brainy thinks that Greedy misheard it but everyone else did, much to Brainy's concern. Baby then shows up again and Papa Smurf picks him up. He sees the odd other eye on Baby's teddy bear and asks Handy if he made the toy for Baby, but Handy says no and that he doesn't know where it came from. Papa Smurf says as long as Baby is happy and puts him down for him to ask Chef for his snack. While Baby crawls away, Papa comes to the conclusion that the teddy bear is a trap and says he saw a sparkle in his eye, which is a magic viewing stone. Jokey believes it's a mole and another Smurf says to destroy it. Papa Smurf has a better idea: they'll trick Gargamel.
In a house, three Smurfs watch as Papa Smurf asks Poet if he can write an interesting story. Poet says yes, since the wizard will be "glued to the screen". Brainy is then assigned to cast the actors for the story. Poet gives Papa the first shot, with Papa saying it's a good start, and now it's showtime.

Hefty and Smurfette are casted due to their performance.
While Baby is occupied with two Smurfs playing smurfball (and laughing at the Smurf that got hit in the face), Brainy is telling the Smurfs that they are doing the romantic scene in act three. First up is Greedy and Jokey, who do an awful job as Greedy says he will always love muffins. Next up is Harmony and Vanity. Harmony sings badly and Vanity says he loves himself. Lastly is Hefty and Smurfette as they do a better job than anyone else and are hired into the play. Then, two random Smurfs are casted into spying on Gargamel and they go to his hovel. While Gargamel watches Baby from the crystal ball, bored as he hasn't seen any action.
Papa Smurf is now with Baby as Brainy is directing the next scene in Hefty's gym as Papa and Baby come in. Smurfette is hitting a bag of Papa Smurf and Gargamel is now happy that something is finally happening. Smurfette now sees Baby and puts him on a chair and Papa runs off. Brainy tells Hefty he's next as Vanity puts makeup on him. Smurfette hits the Papa Smurf bag so hard it hits Hefty, who was about to come in the room. Baby laughs as Hefty says this was not in the script, but Brainy tells him to shush. Hefty comes back and using his biceps and Smurfette's Smurf-Fu skills, she tells him Papa Smurf is growing old and feeble and they must overthrow him and become the new leaders: King Hefty and Queen Smurfette. Gargamel watches through the ball and calls Smurfette a "good girl". The two Smurfs look from the window and sends a stork a message to send to all the others that Gargamel is hooked.
Meanwhile, Papa, Brainy, and Poet are now at Poet's house again. Poet gives Papa Smurf the next scene and Papa tells Brainy that he is up next.
Later, Jokey, Clumsy, and another Smurf are playing cards but Clumsy does not have any diamonds or spades. Jokey tells him to draw and Clumsy scatters the cards everywhere. Gargamel calls him an oaf and he say he has three left hands. Brainy comes in and learns that Hefty and Smurfette are planning a fearless coup as he knows all and he's a genius. Gargamel is watching and says he's a genius too. He devises a plan to become king of the Smurfs with Jokey's secret weapon: an exploding box. Jokey then gives Brainy Hefty's barbells for him to pick up, but they turn out to be rockets and Brainy flies around the room. Papa Smurf gives the okay for the scene. Gargamel then realizes that Brainy is also plotting against Papa, to his surprise. Mummy just then comes in, saying his hovel smells like moldy cheese. Mummy takes the ball as Gargamel tells her what is happening. The ball comes on again as Papa Smurf is with Dimwitty as he and Baby are the only ones who he can trust. Dimwitty gives Papa a carrot instead of what he needs. Mummy is now hooked as well as Papa Smurf says he must retrieve the magical Sword of Power. Whoever finds this sword will have control over the Smurfs forever, so nobody will ever threaten his reign again. The Smurfs laugh as a closeup of Baby's teddy is shown.
Part 2
In Gargamel's hovel, Gargamel explains to Mummy that Papa Smurf is too old to rule, and they want to take his place. While they see Papa talk about the magical Sword of Power, Mummy tells him he needs to get that sword. Gargamel is curious as to what sword, so Mummy hits him and says they're talking about the magical Sword of Power that Gargamel can get to control the Smurfs.
In Hefty's gym, Hefty and Smurfette are reciting a new part of the play as Hefty tells Smurfette to marry him. He tries to kiss her but falls as Smurfette, Baby and Gargamel laugh, but Gargamel falls out his chair. Smurfette tells him this is no time for romance: time for action. Her spies told her about the magical Sword of Power. Gargamel gets up and wonders if Hefty and Smurfette will have a wedding, but Mummy tells him he wouldn't be invited. They then listen to Hefty asking where he will find the sword and Smurfette tells him, but she's whispering, to Gargamel and Mummy's annoyance.
The Stork flies above the village and Brainy gets it, but not before tripping on a rock. He tells Handy it is time for Papa Smurf's big scene.
Vanity gives Papa Smurf some makeup as Poet calls "action!". Papa Smurf runs to Dimwitty and Baby and tells them they need to get the Sword of Power. Hefty comes in on the scene to tell him his reign is over. In the hovel, Mummy tells Gargamel to put it on pause as she is going to the bathroom. Smurfette also arrives and asks Papa Smurf if he is going to get the sword too. Gargamel tells Mummy to hurry as something is happening. Papa Smurf falls to the floor, saying his goose is cooked and Grouchy walks in, saying he doesn't like geese. While Vanity is asking some Smurfs which is his "better side", Poet pushes them, saying they're on next.
Brainy, Jokey, and Vanity arrive so they can get to the magical Sword of Power first. Smurfette and Hefty refuse and begin fighting. Mummy is impressed with Smurfette's Smurf-Fu, kicking Gargamel in the process. The Smurfs start fighting for who will get the sword first and while they continue fighting, Dimwitty, Baby, and Papa Smurf proceed to get the Sword of Power first. Poet tells them the scene is over as it is time for Gargamel's swan song.
In the forest, Papa Smurf looks on a map to show him where the magical Sword of Power is. Gargamel comes from the bathroom and throws Azrael away from his view so he can hear where the sword is. Papa Smurf points to the x spot of the map, next to the scarlet bush. This leaves Gargamel excited, and he runs out of his hovel while the two spying Smurfs watch. Papa Smurf tells Dimwitty and Baby to stay where they are to make sure the area is safe as he walks off. Dimwitty plays with Baby while Mummy is mad that she has to watch this now.
The stork brings another message down to the forest, where Poet grabs it and it says Gargamel is on his way. Handy is excited that Gargamel will fall into their trap. Just then, Papa Smurf comes and sees everything is set. The Smurfs hide and the final act is ready to begin.
In Gargamel's hovel, Dimwitty is playing with Baby as Mummy connects him to Gargamel. Dimwitty gets ready to go where Papa Smurf is, but Mummy and Azrael now see that it's a trap. The two run off as the Smurfs watching go on a stork and fly off as well. One of the two Smurfs drops walnuts on Mummy and Azrael and Mummy trips on one. Mummy yells from afar that it's a trap. Gargamel hears her calls but doesn't listen, but Azrael is still running as well. Mummy keeps calling him, but she gets hit on the head with a log. The stork and the Smurf come down on the ground as the Smurf is glad that the plan is safe. Gargamel is still running, and Azrael joins up with him. He trips him overusing his tail and tries to tell him about the trap, but all Gargamel wonders is that if a cat can lose its mind. He then draws it for him, and he understands. Gargamel then runs off to capture the Smurfs.
Papa Smurf and the others are still hiding as Smurfette notices someone is coming. Suddenly, Dimwitty comes with Baby, wondering if Gargamel came for the sword yet. Unluckily, Gargamel has come at the very moment and all the Smurfs run away, but end up getting caught, including Baby and leaves the camera behind.
Gargamel dumps all of the Smurfs into his pot when he gets to his hovel. However, he hears Mummy in the crystal ball, and it turns out the two Smurfs have kidnapped Mummy, saying if he wants his mother, he has to give the Smurfs back. Gargamel refuses as Mummy does not want to be stuck here all day and orders him to get her. Still refusing, Papa Smurf asks if he's not going to save his own mother. Gargamel tells him to be quiet and Mummy orders him to come in five minutes no longer. Gargamel and Azrael get out of the hovel to save Mummy.
In the forest, Gargamel and Azrael come and Gargamel wonders where the two Smurfs that captured her are. Mummy gives no answer and just wants to be free. Azrael finds one of the two Smurfs and he runs out of the bush he was hiding in and is captured anyway. Gargamel wonders who he is... and the Smurf calls himself a generic Smurf who is useful during crowd scenes but is put in the bag before he can finish. The other Smurf watches him get caught and thinks. While Gargamel tries to untie Mummy, he fails, but decides to use the sword to get her out, but Mummy tells him it's a trap. The un-captured Smurf shoots a nut at the sword, but it fails and Gargamel laughs. The Smurf decides to use a vine and hits the arrow, capturing Gargamel, Azrael, and Mummy in the cage. Gargamel orders him to let them out, but instead, he frees the Smurfs. One of the two Smurfs says, "We didn't have any lines, but we sure know how to improvise" and Papa, Brainy, and the two Smurfs laugh.
At night, Gargamel, Azrael, and Mummy are still trapped in the cage as Mummy insults Gargamel again. In the crystal ball, all the Smurfs are in it as Jokey says they have a special show tonight: How to Become a Clever Wizard, as Gargamel yells in frustration.
Several parts during the scene where the Smurfs and Smurfette are fighting uses several similar body movements to previous episodes:
Smurfette steps on Brainy's head the same way she stepped on Handy's head from "Alien Smurf".
Smurfette uses one Smurf's nose and throws it at various Smurfs, causing them to fall like robots. This is also featured in "Alien Smurf".
The fight that Hefty and Vanity have is similar to the fight Hefty and Storm had in "Alien Smurf".
Brainy, Jokey, Hefty, and Smurfette stop fighting in the same pose as Jokey, Hefty, Grouchy, and Handy in "Diaper Daddy".
The crystal ball makes its second appearance after "Clumsy Not Clumsy".
Clumsy can be seen without the droop on his hat in two scenes: once where he says hi to Smurfette and the other when the Smurfs question how Gargamel knew they were in the forest.
One Smurf calls himself "Generic Smurf" which directly reveals that unnamed Smurfs share the name of "Generic Smurf".
The scene where Gargamel dumps all the Smurfs in his pot features much smoother animation that is similar to the fluid animation in "Who Nose?".
The scene where the Smurfs come to the Village Bell repeats footage from "Diaper Daddy".
The plot is similar to that of the 1980s cartoon show episode "Handy's Window Vision" and some parts of "Smurfy Acres" when the Smurfs decide to trick Gargamel, swapping Window Vision with a teddy bear used as a camera and Gargamel's crystal ball.
