Synopsis[]
Azrael has enough of Gargamel and leaves the hovel, but when he gets hurt in the forest, Wild brings the cat to the Smurfs' village to help heal him.
Summary[]
In Gargamel's hovel, Gargamel is searching for ways to find the Smurfs' village, but he is distracted by Azrael, who purrs around him. Gargamel doesn't understand this mysterious love for his master, and he kicks him away. When he sits and tries to analyze a book containing the village, Azrael tries to cuddle with him, but he throws him away and says he hates touching his fur. The poor cat wants to be with Gargamel, but the wizard still doesn't understand what is making him so clingy and as a result, he throws him outside the hovel. Azrael leaves the hovel and blows a raspberry.
In the forest, Bigmouth the ogre walks around looking for food. Just then, he comes across Azrael, who is purring around him like he did to Gargamel, but Bigmouth prepares to eat him. Azrael scratches him several times and he lost his grip. The ogre throws him away and calls him "mean". Azrael stumbles over and is almost about to fall off a cliff. He is at the edge, but successfully escapes injury... except he walks where the large ravine is and he falls off the cliff.
Azrael is hurt as Wild comes by. When he gets up, his paw is hurt, and he is unable to walk. Wild sees the pain and wants to heal it, but Azrael dreams of eating Wild (which turns out to be a reality). The Smurf yells "No eat Smurf!", which Azrael obeys. As Wild sees that the cat will be obedient, he and Azrael fly to the village via stork to tell Papa Smurf.
It is a normal day in Smurf Village as Papa Smurf is walking around. Just then, he hears Wild's cry as he runs to the back of Handy's workshop. He screams at the sight of Azrael, but Wild informs him about the cat's hurt paw. Papa Smurf observes the paw and sees how it is hurt, but they can't keep him in the village. A demonstration shows when Chef notices Azrael and runs away. When he informs various Smurfs, they run away and close their doors. Papa Smurf says he needs to have a talk with his little Smurfs.
The village leader has the Village Bell rung to explain to every Smurf about Azrael. Everyone is mad and protests about this, since Azrael belonged to Gargamel, therefore, he is entirely bad. Papa Smurf tells them to silence, saying that even if the cat belongs to Gargamel, they need to help him. Smurfette shares this thought, saying Azrael can change his ways, but Hefty claims he is going to eat them. Smurfette accuses Hefty of having no heart, but the bulky Smurf says Azrael wouldn't want to mistake her for sweet sarsaparilla but goes off-topic as he falls. Jokey additionally thinks the same as Hefty, saying Azrael will try to eat them. Brainy tries to explain his input on the situation, but he is simply kicked away by Hefty. Brainy falls on Azrael's head and runs off as the cat glares at him. Papa Smurf silences the Smurfs once more, saying they can't send an injured animal away. He explains that Wild will be in charge of Azrael while he makes a curing potion. Hefty skeptically agrees and says they will have to put the cat in a safe place.
Azrael is taken to Farmer's pen as Farmer rounds up his snails to another location to make room for the cat. Wild shows him blueberries, which he says are much better than Smurfs. He eats several of them and enjoys them. While Smurfette congratulates him, Hefty and Jokey are keeping an eye on the cat. Suddenly, Clumsy runs into the pen, but trips and gets eaten by Azrael. Wild orders for him not to eat Smurfs. He obeys and spits Clumsy out. Dimwitty is the cheerleader of this situation and runs off. Hefty and Jokey believe that Azrael just wants to gobble them up when he gets the chance.
Azrael is much more liked and has much more happy relationships with various Smurfs; he plays ball with Farmer, patty-cake with Smurfette, has Smurfs run around him, and Chef even bakes a blueberry pie for him.
Hefty and Jokey are unhappy that the Smurfs like Azrael now and want them to learn the "truth". Just then, Jokey gets an idea: they can make themselves look appetizing and then show the other Smurfs that he hasn't changed. Hefty agrees to this plan.
Meanwhile, Smurfette is brushing Azrael's teeth, but as she is, Azrael imagines eating her, which turns out to almost be a reality. He stops under Wild's request and Smurfette continues brushing. Near the pen, Hefty and Jokey bring their plan to action as Wild and Smurfette go to pick some more blueberries. The two Smurfs run into the pen and Hefty shows off his "tasty" muscles. This catches Azrael's attention and eats him. When Jokey warns Wild and Smurfette to come back, they come to see... Azrael cuddling with Hefty. Smurfette calls this "cute" and congratulates Azrael, much to Jokey's disappointment.
Later, Papa Smurf has created the healing potion for Azrael. He pours it onto the cat's paws, and he is officially cured. However, he hears Papa Smurf say they can take him back into the forest. This worries Azrael, seeing as to how he was able to make friends. Wild is delighted about the heal, but suddenly, Azrael pretends to fake another injury. Wild runs up to him to see what is wrong, but Azrael is faking. Wild catches on and agrees to lie. Hefty knows he's pretending, and he will eat them, but Wild explains Azrael is good now, something that Smurfette points out as well. When she and Dimwitty want Azrael to stay, Papa Smurf agrees, as long as there are no bad moves. As Smurfette, Dimwitty, and Wild cheer, Hefty and Jokey get another idea.
At night, the two scheming Smurfs try to annoy Azrael by using several of Jokey's gag boxes and throwing Hefty's dumbbells on him. The two try to escape as they are ready to face the cat's wrath, but Azrael doesn't do anything and blows a raspberry at them. The plan fails.
In the morning, Smurfette levitates on Azrael's head while Dimwitty fans them. Hefty and Jokey sit on a bench, still untrusting of him. Azrael is relaxed and falls asleep, dreaming around colored clouds. However, his dream is interrupted by a dream Gargamel, who yells at him for not getting any Smurfs in the village. Azrael is obligated to listen to his master, causing him to chase Smurfette and Hefty (the latter of whom provoked him by punching him). He then chases multiple Smurfs and eats Hefty. Just then, Wild arrives just in time and yells "NO EAT SMURF!". Azrael spits Hefty out as he and the other Smurfs glare at him. Papa Smurf has also been eaten and he is spit out. He informs Wild that Azrael really can't stay in the village anymore. At the edge of the village, Wild unhappily sends Azrael out. Azrael walks away.
The cat is now in the forest, depressed. However, he and Wild meet up again, now being friends. Just then, Gargamel arrives, saying he's been looking for Azrael for days. He notices Wild and takes him. This upsets Azrael, so he bites Gargamel's butt. He demands to know what had just happened and assumes it was another Smurf. As they go home, however, Wild and Azrael wave to each other happily.
