Grandpa Swoof was a Swoof character that appeared in the original comic book story of "The Astro Smurf" and in the 1980s cartoon show episodes "The Astrosmurf" and "Dreamy's Pen Pals". He was actually Papa Smurf, who was changed into a Swoof by the potion that changed all his little Smurfs except Dreamy into Swoofs.
In the cartoon show, Grandpa Swoof had green skin and long white hair with a white beard and moustache, and he wore a red loincloth, possibly indicating his role as the village leader. In the original comic books, Grandpa Swoof had orange skin with black hair and wore a yellow loincloth; this was changed in the Papercutz reprint of "The Astro Smurf" to make the character reflect his appearance in the cartoon show, though he was renamed Papa Swoof.
In the episode "Good Neighbor Smurf", Papa Smurf is briefly transformed into Grandpa Swoof when Brainy decides to tinker with his chemicals during his stay in Papa Smurf's house.
His character was voiced by Don Messick.
