Erik Swain is a pre-made young adult Sim in his Freshman year studying Art at Sim State University. He is in the Student bin when the game starts. Erik dreams of being an artist in the future as mentioned in his bio, whilst his lifetime want states that he wants to marry off 6 children. He's a Family Sim and is close to maximizing his fitness level. Erik shares the same last name with the Swain family from Moonlight Falls.

Like several other Sims from Sim State University, he starts off with no gender preference. Erik is 72 hours away from the final exam in his first semester, when he is first moved into a household. He has the same personality as Lilith Pleasant. Like Jimmy Phoenix, Erik has no relationships with anyone. If he is moved in with an existing household, he'll have acquaintance level relationships with those Sims.

Strangely, if Erik's appearance is extracted with SimPE to Body Shop, he will be thin instead of fit. The reason for this is because he has the fitness texture for thin Sims instead of the one for fit Sims. This implies that he was originally thin and his fitness level was subsequently modified with a program like SimPE. The only way for him to have the fitness texture for fit Sims without hacks is by having him overeat until he becomes thin, and then have him workout until he is fit again. This also happens with many other pre-made Sims in The Sims 2.
