Speech is when sounds (or gestures) are made in an attempt of two individuals to communicate with one another. The communication can be verbal (based on words), or non-verbal (based on the actions of one of the participants). It can also be directed to one person only, or to a few (or even many).

Animals also have speech, they also communicate with each other. However, many times this communication is not as elaborate as when humans do.

In many cases, speech is made more difficult, because the speaker may say something, and means something completely different. Also different languages may be involved.
