William Joseph "Billy" Batson, also known as the superhero Shazam, is the titular protagonist of Shazam! and its sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: After being chosen the wizard Shazam to be his final champion and being granted the magical power, Billy becomes a superhero in Philadelphia who has defeated threats such as Thaddeus Sivana, Kalypso and Ladon.
  • Courageous/Reckless: Even before he has superpower, Billy eventually stands up for Freddy Freeman when the latter was being picked on by two bullies, who insulted Freeman for not having his mother present. After being granted magical power, Billy interfered in an armed robbery at a convenience store before knowing that his new magical power allows him not to be harmed by natural means.
  • Stubborn: It is said that Billy has ran away from twenty-three foster homes across six counties to find his biological parents and tirelessly searched for his mother's whereabouts for about eleven years. His willpower has allowed him to resist the allure of the Eye of Sin, despite generations of chosen individuals having failed to do so when tested by the wizard Shazam.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: When Billy is not with superpower, Billy pursues to find his biological mother to the extent that it is said that he has ran away from twenty-three foster homes across six counties to find his biological parents. After with his superpower, Billy pursues to be recognized as a superhero.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship: Despite initially refusing to make friends mostly because he has been an orphan, Billy shares his powers with his foster family, allowing them to become a superhero team. Because he is an orphan who is abandoned by his biological parents, he worries that his bad headship and other family members' personal lives could result in him being abandoned again.
  • Possesses Plot Armor: After Billy sacrificed himself to kill Kalypso and Ladon, preventing them from attacking Philadelphia, Wonder Woman travels to Mount Olympus to restore the power of the magical staff and bring him back to life.
  • Rebellious: Billy is willingly to break law in order to find his biological mother.
