Edward Elric is the main protagonist of Fullmetal Alchemist.
He is voiced by Romi Park in Japanese and Vic Mignogna in English.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Edward has saved the world from Father's plans of becoming its new God, and has a very notable guilt complex.
- Courageous/Reckless: Edward doesn't show fear in danger, and was even ready to sacrifice himself at one point, and recklessly experimented on himself and Al in his attempt to revive their mother.
- Energetic: Edward is very hotblooded.
- Stubborn: Edward is known for his fierceness, which is pretty much the reason he is codenamed as the Fullmetal Alchemist.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Edward's main goal is to acquire the Philosopher's Stone to restore his and his brother's limbs after a failed experiment.
- Optimistic: While he is well-known for his cynicism and guilt complex, Edward still possesses some amount of self-confidence.
- Oblivious to Love: For the majority of the series, Edward seemed unaware of Winry's crush on him.
- Short-Tempered: Edward is notoriously well known for his combative nature, especially his Napoleonic denial of his height, flying into a rage whenever someone calls him short.
- Has a Rival: Edward has a friendly rivalry with Roy Mustang.
- Big Eater: While he isn’t gluttonous by any means, Edward does possess an above-average appetite.
- Rebellious: Edward shows a disregard toward authority, and frequently refuses to follow orders he despises.
- Tragic Past: When Edward was 4 or 5, his father left his and Alphonse's life suddenly for seemingly no reason and never returned, causing Edward to show a lot of resentment toward him, and thus leaving the brothers alone with their mother Trisha, who they lose to an illness just some time later. The subsequent grief Edward felt afterward was enough for him to decide to revive her with alchemy, leading to him performing the failed Human Transmutation experiment that caused him to lose several body parts and Al to lose his entire body.
