The Stray Rinne (はぐれ燐子 Hagure Rin'ne?),[1] also sometimes referred to as the Vampire Rinne (吸血鬼の燐子 Kyūketsuki no Rin'ne?) in Shakugan no Shana Fūzetsu Battle, was a character in the anime series. A Rinne that had lost its master, it wandered into Misaki City and was eventually destroyed by Shana.

Appearance[]

Ep 10 Rinne crowd

The Rinne among a crowd of humans.

The Stray Rinne was a large humanoid in appearance. It was much taller than an average human, with its head and shoulders sticking out in a crowd of people. It had greenish-grey skin, small fangs, pointed ears, and black eyes. When it began devouring humans, its body swelled to triple the size of a human.[2]

When walking among humans, the Rinne wore a black coat, a grey bucket hat, sunglasses, and a surgical mask to avoid suspicion.[2]

Personality[]

Ep 10 Rinne desperate

The Rinne desperately trying to devour a human.

The Stray Rinne was in a state of confusion after losing its master and despised Flame Haze for killing them. It had a strong will to live, as it desperately sought Power of Existence even while Shana was cutting it to pieces.[2]

Plot[]

Interval Stories Arc[]

Since Rinne cannot survive 3 days without being supplied with Power of Existence from their Crimson Denizen master,[1] the Stray Rinne's master had been destroyed less than 3 days before the Rinne wandered into Misaki City. Seeking Power of Existence, it went on a rampage and attacked humans, even though this would not extend its life.[1]

Ep 10 Shana slash Rinne

Shana slashing away at the Rinne.

The Rinne wandered into a large crowd of people in Misaki City and activated a Fūzetsu. It devoured several humans, but they simply disappeared without the Rinne being able to absorb their Power of Existence. It still tried to eat humans when Shana arrived, and she cut off the Rinne's arm. The Rinne then tried to flee but was chased down and slowly hacked to pieces by her. It was finally reduced to its core and destroyed by Shana.[2]

Powers and Abilities[]

Ep 10 Rinne core

The Rinne's core extending out to devour a human.

The Stray Rinne's body was soft and flabby to the point that it was difficult to cut through even with the Nietono no Shana. Its body's core was very small and it could thus keep moving until that core was destroyed. Even when reduced to its core, it could still move and change its shape.[2]

Unrestricted Spells[]

The Stray Rinne was able to cast a Fūzetsu, which Marchosias described as poor in quality.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The Stray Rinne's role in the anime series is similar to the one Nina plays in the side story Nomad and the manga series.
