Released in the official Japanese guidebook for "Shadow Hearts: From the New World", Johnny's memos (also listed as "Johnny's detective notes") are set up as the account written by Johnny Garland reflecting on the events that happen during the course of the game.
Notably the final entry seems to hint at the good ending of the game.
Entry 1[]
I've finally been asked to do some real detective work!
Lenny's asked me to write down notes for my records, but I didn't feel like writing about my previous cases of missing cats or investigating an affair.
"Are you sure you want to accept such a dangerous job?", Lenny keeps asking, but I'm the head of this detective agency! I know it's probably a dangerous job hunting down missing criminal suspects who've bailed out on parole, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
I'm looking for a "Marlowe Brown". He's a suspect in eight cases, and the client is a called, Gilbert, who is his sponsor.

When I learned that Marlowe was hiding out in an old abandoned theatre in Chelsea, I rushed to the scene.
It's a real shady place, where thugs and other dangerous good-for-nothings live.
Even the locals avoid it.
It makes it a perfect place for a wanted criminal to lay down low for a while.
In the room where I found Marlowe it was littered with all kinds of tools and gizmos I'd never seen before. Professor Gilbert never mentioned anything about that sort of thing.
But, when I told him my name...Marlowe knew me.
Why?
But before I could get an answer something terrible happened; the space behind him distorted, and a large red monster crawled out of nowhere!
Gotta say, I was suprised.
At that exact moment another monster - this one white and with wings - burst through the ceiling window from outside.
I really didn't know what was going on at the time.

Having fainted, while I was unconscious this glamorous beauty, Shania, and this big guy, Natan, carried me back to the office.
Lenny was obviously relieved when he saw me getting out of bed, no worse for wear.
I feel bad for worrying him even more, but I've got no intentions of dropping this cases. Shania and Natan are in the business of exterminating monsters, and Shania herself is able to transform into the winged monster I saw at the theatre. Thrilling stuff.
Much more exciting than being a detective investigating cheating spouses.
The thing that attacked Marlowe appeared because he broke the seal of condensed human rage called "Malice"...it doesn't really make any sense to me, but I think it's better just to go along and accept it, honestly.
There's only one thing that bothered me; I know I'm shorter than Shania, but that doesn't mean I'm a kid!
Don't treat me like a kid!

I travelled to Arkham University in Boston to report the details of the case to Professor Gilbert, the client who tasked me with the search for Marlowe Brown. Shania and Natan tagged along, of course.
The campus was lively and overflowing with students. I thought I'd be able to find Professor Gilbert's room in no time, but that wasn't the case.
What we heard is that the Professor seems to be conducting research in a closed laboratory. The door is locked so we can't get in, unless we go in through an underpass from the edge of the university grounds.
The underpass we entered was pitch-black, and we couldn't see what was going on around us unless we used a lantern. We were attacked by monsters that look like the one that appeared in that abandoned theatre...
Who could believe that all this was happening right in the basement of the University!?
Halfway exploring the tunnels we came across Frank - we met him earlier in the university courtyard. He's apparently a master of ninjitsu? This Frank was also looking for Gilbert, so we let him tag along, even if he is a bit weird.
Professor Gilbert is a real shady guy; he told us all the creatures we found in the basement are his own "creations".
And not only that, getting me to search for Marlowe was only to get me involved with things. Marlowe was just an excuse. And what did he mean by "thanks to you, my suspicions proved to be well-founded"!?
But before we could ask him what he meant, a strange thing happened; right behind me one of those "windows" appeared, and a monster with long fangs tried to jump out at me, but was impaled by a red light and died.
But...it wasn't Shania, or Natan, or Frank who saved me...it was me.
A red light was glowing from the knife I was holding. What the hell is happening to me?
I can't forget the satisfied smile on Gilbert's face when he saw this and fled.
It's at this point I know I'm in pretty deep to whatever's going on here.
Entry 5[]
Seems that Gilbert's name and background were all lies. I'm sure he used some means to get into the university in order to cover up his easy-to-move professorship and research facilities. Shania said she wanted to stop by somewhere before we try to learn anything more about Gilbert. The Grand Canyon. It's a pretty remote place, but it seems like it's absolutely necessary. I didn't want her to go alone, so I decided to go with her.

It took us three weeks to get to the Grand Canyon, but here, Shania has gained a new fusion spirit.
She says that a contract with the spirits and taking their power into her body isn't something most normal people wouldn't be able to endure.
Why does she want all this power?
Come to think of it, why is she chasing after all these monsters in the first place?

We've came to Chicago, where Frank's teacher is said to be.
Chicago is said to be a dangerous place ruled by the Mafia, but their boss Al Capone is now behind bars.
He was arrested by a smart investigator on the pretext of tax evasion.
Now it's Mao, Frank's master, who's running this city. Oh, and Mao is a giant cat.
A cat...?
That's weird right??
Not just me that finds it weird??
In exchange for information on Gilbert's whereabouts, Mao says we've got to help Capone break out of Alcatraz prison, which is said to be impossible to break out of.
Oh my God!
But I'm a kid detective of on the side of justice!
In the end, I've decided to help him escape from prison, but I can't help but feel guilty...
Entry 8[]
We secretly made our way through the prison and came to the room where Capone was imprisoned.
However, there was something off when we came into the room. A guard was pointing a gun at Capone. It was Mao who saw this and reacted immediately.
In the blink of an eye, the her foot shot out and slammed into him - Flash!
Wow, kung fu, it's the first time I've seen it.
The jailer's true identity seems to be that of an assassin hired by a rival Irish gang, which is part of a turf war between Capone's gang.
Fancy sending an assassin to a place like this...
When Capone escaped from Alcatraz, the alarm went off. The reason for this is that Capone's younger sister, Edna, came here and summoned a monster through one of those "windows".
She shouldn't have that kind of power in her, but how the hell?
While we were taking care of the monster, she disappeared...
We certainly seem to be entering into deeper waters with this...
Entry 9[]
We came to Roswell, a rural town in the New Mexico desert, on the basis that Gilbert had been spotted around here.
However, the director of the research institute told us that Gilbert that is off to investigate Chichen Itza, an ancient ruin in the southern part of the Mexican Empire.
Are you kidding me?
In the base, we also rescued a girl, Hilda, and an alien-like old man, Roger. What surprised me the most was that the girl was a vampire.
I feel like I'm getting more and more involved in this amazing world (and more like I'm becoming a criminal).

The boat that Lenny had prepared for us was attacked by pirates.
I managed to survive the interrogation, and Shania found a sea spirit near this island and acquired a new power.
Apparently, the pirates misunderstood, and thought we were after their treasure.
The leader of the pirates is a little girl named Ann. They must be the descendants of the pirates who survived until this time.
Just when we thought we would finally be able to head to Chichen Itza, Mao's subordinates appeared before us. Capone thought that the guy who kidnapped Edna was a Las Vegas gangster, so he went to Las Vegas with his men.
It's hard to believe that there's a mere gangster behind the Edna we saw at Alcatraz.
Also, Mao's subordinates came all this way to this remote island, what an amazing information network...

I think Edna's only comfort is that she died in the arms of her beloved Ricardo.
Even Capone can't hide his grief over her death. Was this "window" force something that someone had set up?
I desperately wanted to see that guy's face.
How would you feel if a parent, sibling, or loved one died?
Absolutely, absolutely unforgivable!!

At Chichen Itza, we finally caught up with Gilbert.
Beside him, we also saw the man and woman who kept turning up and disappearing when these windows appeared! Shania suddenly ran towards one of them.
That woman, Lady, is said to be the enemy of her tribe.
If I were in a similar position, I might have been furious.
Shania attacked her with all her might, but Lady dodged it.
This Lady is a stronger enemy than I thought.
A "window" opened behind the man called the Killer, and a monster appeared.
We managed to defeat this mighty monster, but it didn't even have the strength to move anymore and passed out...

Since that fight, Shania has been completely depressed. And she's got such a furious expression on her face.
And it was clear that Shania was afraid of something.
Her enemy escaped, so I think I can understand her mood... Also, why didn't Gilbert and the others stop us, and just let us go?
I don't know why, but until my injury heals, I've decided to rest at the villa provided by Mr. Capone.

Mr. Ness, who we met at Alcatraz Prison, has given us information that Killer had entered South America.
We're starting to track them down again.
Of course, Gilbert and Lady should be together.

At the bottom of the Machu Picchu ruins, what we saw was an empty device after all the Malice had been released, and an unconscious Shania.
Once again, Lady and her cohorts have escaped.
Shania, who ran off first, seems to have challenged Lady to a fight.
For now, I'm glad Shania is okay...
We meet Loloma from Moana in the Marquesas Islands.
She says she was ordered by the island elder to take us there.
When Shania woke up, she seemed to be interested in Loloma's words, with a pensive look on her face.

In the village of Moana, we were told by the island elder, Okanagan about Lady's true purpose.
Lady is trying to free Malice from three ruins: Chechen Itza, Machu Picchu, and Vilcabamba.
If that Malice is released, the "gate" that connects this world and another world will be summoned.
Okanagan was apprehensive about the appearance of the "gate" and called us over.
Lady wants to destroy the world.
I can't let that happen!

At the ruins of Vilcabamba, we were unable to protect anything again.
The young men of Moana who fought to prevent Lady from entering the ruins, where the Malice who was sealed, were wiped out.
And now there's a strange gate in the sky.
Has our journey to save the world come to an end?

Okanagan thanked us with words of gratitude, saying, "Well, we're back safely."
"Those who survive are not to take revenge, but to fulfill their mission," she said.
I'm sure she's right.
But those are hard words for Shania to hear.
My mission... My mission is to regain my memories that I lost in that accident.
I don't know how to do that, but no matter how many detours I take, I'll try to get my memory back!
Okanagan told us the "mission" that we must do.
The location is the Uyuni salt lake in the south of the continent, a salt tower built in preparation for the appearance of that "gate" in this world.
At the top floor of this tower, the blue light Will, which is a pair with Malice, is sealed.
First, however, we've got to find the two rings that hold the key to unlocking it.

I got the first ring in a cave in Aito.
A monster that looked like some kind of guardian deity attacked us, but our determination was firm.
Entry 20[]
We received a second ring from Zonta, Shania's fiancée in the Grand Canyon.
None of us know what Shania talked about with Zonta.
However, the expression on Shania's face when she brought the ring was very painful.
She, too, is struggling with a strange past.

we've come to the Uyuni Salt Flats.
On the top floor of the tower was a device that sealed Will, and in the middle was a pedestal that held two rings.
The two of us solemnly approached the apparatus as if it were a wedding.
Killer rushed into the room.
He must have sensed our movements and came to hinder us.
Killer says that even if Lady's wish is to destroy the world, he wants to make it come true.

But a love that could destroy the world is too sad.
We've grown so much in the fights we've fought so far.
We can't lose just because your opponent is a killer!

It seems that when I passed out, I transformed into a figure that looked just like Lady.
I don't know why it happened to me.
Even the knife marks where Killer stabbed me have disappeared...
Also, while I was sleeping, I had a very strange dream, so I'll write it down so I don't forget it.
It was during a black magic ritual.
My father casting a spell, Roger trying to stop it, and Marlowe Brown trying to hold back Roger.
My sister and I are in two tanks.
After that, I heard my father's death spell.
Then Lady slowly leaves the room.
Does this dream have anything to do with the reason I transformed?
I'm definitely going to check it out.

When I returned to the house that was supposed to have been burnt down by fire, I saw a photograph of my sister, Grace, who was supposed to have died in the accident.
My sister looked just like that Lady...
How is that possible!?

I've heard something from Roger that surprised me.
My sister and I died eight years ago.
In order to help me when my resuscitation was about to fail, my sister turned into a lady, a Malice-imbued life form.
Even if you suddenly told me to believe in such things...

Her body is also affected by Malice.
Shania was tormented by anxiety, but we've been fighting together all this time.
