Bonanza Bros. is a side-scrolling shoot-em-up videogame developed by Sega and released in 1990 for the Arcades, and later the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, and home computers. The game is about stealing various treasures (as they are called in the game) from various locations with a time limit of 3 minutes.

Plot[]

The Bonanza Bros, Robo and Mobo, are two sibling criminals who one day receive a job that's right up their alley. They need to steal evidence and loot from locations in Badville to expose their fraudulent and corrupt businesses.

Gameplay[]

Player 1 (Robo) and 2 (Mobo) have to capture all of the treasures in a level while sneaking by and shooting guards. You can jump as to get onto higher spaces, and hide behind staircases. After collecting alll of the treasures, both players will need to go up the exit staircase and into the blimp, where the level is then completed.

Ports and related releases[]

Bonanza Bros. was ported onto the Amiga, ZX Spectrum, Atari ST an other home computers by U.S Gold. While other ports were handled by Sega.

The game is included in many Sega Mega Drive/Genesis compilations, such as Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection, Sega Mega Drive Collection, and Sega Mega Drive Classics. The game received a remaster in Sega Ages 2500 Vol.6: Puzzle & Action + Bonanza Bros.

The game had a spin-off in 1993 called Puzzle & Action: Tant-R, which then had 2 sequels in 1994 and 1995, Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R and Puzzle & Action: Treasure Hunt. Those then had a spin-off in 1996's Taisen Tanto-R 'Sasissu!'.

Trivia[]

  • Robo and Mobo cameo in the Sega Classics Collection (Ages 2500) version of Puzzle & Action: Tant-R, where they can be seen in a bar talking to a detective along with a guard dog from Bonanza Bros.
  • The brothers later are playable racers in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. They also cameo in sequel on the Race of Ages track.
