SCP-173 (Old Version), SCP-173 or "The Sculpture" is a Euclid class SCP and the primary antagonist of the Light Containment Zone in SCP: Unity. It was replaced in Version 0.7.0.
Description[]
SCP-173 (Old Version) is a concrete sculpture of unknown origin measuring 2.0 meters tall and weighing approximately 468 kg. The statue is vaguely humanoid in shape, although improperly proportioned. Traces of Krylon Brand Spray-Paint on the statue's upper body, resembling a face. SCP-173 (Old Version) consists of multiple individual concrete portions joined by steel reinforcing bars. The two appendages projecting from the upper section of the sculpture consist of curled, stubby concrete arms that are used to snap the neck.
When SCP-173 (Old Version) is left unobserved and line of sight is broken by a human conscious being, the object becomes animate, moving at speeds documented between 60 and 90km/h. The mechanism for its locomotion is not known at this time. Personnel assigned to enter its containment chamber are instructed to alert one another before blinking to avoid complete loss of visual contact.
SCP-173 (Old Version) displays awareness of its environment, reacting to changes and responding to stimuli when it is free to move. It is unknown if SCP-173 (Old Version) is intelligent or sapient. However, the statue is extremely hostile and will attempt to kill any human that enters its containment chamber if left unobserved. The sculpture is capable of manipulating the steel rebar to attack its victims where it will attempt to snap the neck at the base of the skull or strangle the victim to death. However, alternative methods of attack and hostility towards non-humans have been recorded. For unclear reasons, SCP-173 (Old Version) seems incapable of incapable of targeting unconscious individuals. The painted patterns of the sculpture alter over time as it is left unobserved. As the sapience of the object has yet to be determined, whether this change is dependent on any behaviour state or is purely cosmetic is unknown.
In-game[]
SCP-173 (Old Version) is the primary antagonist of the Light Containment Zone. It will attempt to pursue and kill the player via snapping the player's neck. However, SCP-173 (Old Version) cannot move while it is observed. This means that SCP-173 (Old Version) can only move if the player is currently blinking, turned away, or the player's line of sight to SCP-173 (Old Version) is obscured by a wall or other object. SCP-173 (Old Version) will not begin to chase the player until the player has seen SCP-173 (Old Version), at which point the blink meter will appear and SCP-173 (Old Version) will give chase. Any time the player looks away from SCP-173 (Old Version), its facial appearance will change to one of 10 possible faces. SCP-173 (Old Version) can be avoided by getting a closed door between it and the player, as this will prevent SCP-173 (Old Version) from reaching the player as it cannot open doors. Should SCP-173 (Old Version) catch the player, the player will be killed instantly and the game will end.
Currently, SCP-173 spawns randomly in several locations. SCP-173 will spawn regardless of the location or current enemies in the area, leading to potentially deadly situations should another SCP or even two other SCPs be pursuing the player when SCP-173 arrives. However, SCP-173 cannot spawn in safe rooms such as SCP-1762's containment chamber or the Patron Offices, but it can enter them if let in.
SCP-173 (Old Version) does not spawn in its containment cell at the beginning of the game. This is intentional, as SCP-173 (Old Version)'s whereabouts will be explained in an intro sequence yet to come.
Trivia[]
- This version was replaced by a new version in Version 0.7.0.
- This was one of the variants of SCP-173.
- SCP-173 (Old Version) was the first SCP to ever be written, somewhat analogous to the fact it was the first SCP to be implemented into the game.
- While it was the primary antagonist of SCP: Containment Breach, it won't serve this role in SCP: Unity, being designated as the primary roaming enemy of the Light Containment Zone instead.
- Unlike in SCP: Containment Breach, SCP-173 (Old Version) cannot open doors.
- SCP-173 (Old Version)'s arms were planned to be able to move between blinks, and while it's believed this feature was completed, the version it was set to be included in was never released.
