The Orphaned Generation was a term used for people born between 2008 and 2020 who grew up during the Reconstruction Era and lost one or both parents. They often did not recall the Times before the Rain of Death and lived with little social security while having to scrape by to survive. Many took on a cynical and nihilistic worldview had little morality. Often they embraced lifestyles and subcultures involving escaping reality with alcohol, drugs, lust, and mind-altering tech. They often don't care what happens to themselves, others, and the planet and the attitude of not fearing the future came from thinking things couldn't be worse than they were. They often show sorrow over the happier life denied to them and The Earth First ideology counters the Orphaned Generation. It was popular in the Southlands and worked for repairing the planet after the Rain of Death. Modern Youth social movement also formed to counter the Orphaned Generation andsaw the Rain of Death as a civilization reboot to make an ideal society of harmony, community, duty,discipline, selessness, justice, cleanliness, and preparedness for the future.
