Note:
Vozrozhdeniya, an island in the Aral Sea between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, had
been the second largest lake island, at about 900 sq miles / 2,300 sq km, but
the shrinking of the sea joined it to the mainland between June 2000 and June
2001. It is now a peninsula.
