The Master is the main antagonist in the Classic BBC science fiction series Doctor Who. He was an immortality seeking renegade Time Lord who was continuously searching for new ways to survive. He is also the archenemy and former best friend of The Doctor.
He was portrayed by the two actors primarily in Classic Who; the late Roger Delgado and the late Anthony Ainley. In Doctor Who: The Movie he was portrayed by Eric Roberts after stealing the body of a paramedic named Bruce, who also voiced Mongul in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, and Ezechiel Pregzt in Alone in the Dark. Finally another incarnation was voiced by Alex MacQueen in various Big Finish audio dramas.
Two actors also portrayed the disfigured version of his 13th incarnation; the late Peter Pratt in The Deadly Assassin and Geoffrey Beevers in The Keeper of Traken and Big Finish's audio productions. As well as this, James Dreyfus has portrayed an early Master.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He killed countless lifeforms across the galaxy all in his quest for power and conquest.
- Continually tormented and antagonized his former best friend The Doctor.
- Planned to distribute plastic products created and animated by the Nestene Consciousness, killing millions, in order to conquer the Earth.
- Murdered Albert Goodge with his Tissue Compression Eliminator in order to use his radio telescope to summon the Nestenes to Earth.
- Had the Nestenes kill George McDermott and John Farrel.
- Disguised Rex Farrel as himself and sent him to be shot and killed by UNIT soldiers in order to escape capture.
- Used the Keller Machine to kill people by subjecting them to their worst fears.
- Attempted to trigger a nuclear war by disrupting or destroying the World Peace Conference in order to take over the world with no resistance.
- Fatally run over George Patrick Barnham for getting in his way.
- Brought Axos to Earth, putting it at risk of being destroyed by having its energy drained, in the hope of allying with it to take over. While he later helped the Doctor defeat Axos, he only did so when he realized that he's in danger from it as well.
- Attempted to steal the Uxariean Doomsday Weapon and hold the galaxy to ransom.
- Murdered Canon Smallwood with his TCE and took his place as part of a plot to gain the power of the Dæmons from Azal.
- Planned to sacrifice Jo Grant to Azal in order to gain his power.
- Made a pact with the Sea Devils to help them wage war on humanity in order to escape from prison.
- Summoned Kronos with the intent of enslaving the being to gain its immense power, thus indirectly causing the death of Charles Percival and Stuart Hyde being aged into a eighty-year-old.
- Staged a coup in Atlantis that resulted in the death of king Dalios before having the entire civilization destroyed by Kronos to avoid being imprisoned.
- Conspired with the Daleks to incite war between Earth and Draconian empires.
- Threatened to kill Jo by shoving her out the airlock if the Doctor doesn't surrender.
- Used holographic images to trick the Doctor into assassinating the Time Lord President in order to have him framed and executed, before murdering Commentator Runcible and another man to prevent the truth from being discovered.
- Caused Goth fatal brain damage by sending an energy spike through his brain in an attempt to kill the Doctor.
- Brainwashed Kassia of Traken and having her sabotage her own home world and people in an attempt at gaining more life.
- Stole the body of Tremas and used it for himself. To add insult to injury he even mocked Tremas' daughter Nyssa over the fact when his manipulations against her by posing as her late father are exposed by The Doctor.
- Wiped out a quarter of all life in the entire universe. While this was technically accidental, he felt no remorse for this and used to further his goals.
- Fatally injured the 4th Doctor and forced him into a painful regeneration.
- Kidnapped and tortured Adric.
- Nearly sent the newly regenerated 5th Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan into the Big Bang to their deaths.
- Tried to trap all of the Doctor's incarnations and their companions in Death Zone in order to steal Rassilon's ring and give himself immortality.
- Stalked, harassed, threatened and tried to hypnotize Peri Brown.
- Took over Kamelion's body and ultimately left him damaged to the point where the latter begs The Doctor to shut him down out of fear of being possessed by The Master again.
- Extorted The Rani and forced her to allow him into her scheme in Killingworth by withholding her lung medication from her. By extension he is involved in her brainwashing, killing and experimentation on the Killingworth residents.
- Taunted The Doctor over Peri Brown's apparent death and the supposed inevitability of him becoming The Valeyard in the future.
- Took over the Cheetah World and enslaved many of its inhabitants.
- Kidnapped several people from Earth and transported them onto the Cheetah World, including The Doctor.
- Drived Midge into insanity and infecting him with the Cheetah virus so that he could escape the Cheetah World.
- Traumatised Midge's younger sister Squeak by showing her Midge in his savage state of mind and murdering her cat in front of her.
- Embraced his infection with the Cheetah virus and allowed it to amplify his own criminal tendencies.
- Tried to kill The Doctor on the burning Cheetah World, ignoring the latter's warnings that their fight will only damage the planet more.
- When put on trial and sentenced to death by the Daleks, he manipulated The Doctor into taking his ashes back to Galifrey only to betray him on the journey to their home world by instead using his deathworm morphant form to sabotage the TARDIS and send it to December 1999.
- Possessed Bruce, killed him and stole his body.
- Killed Bruce's wife.
- Manipulated Chang Lee into joining his cause by buttering him up with false promises and empty praise.
- Took advantage of the amnesiac Doctor who in his new regeneration and tried to steal his remaining regenerations to prolong his own life.
- Spitted venom at Dr. Grace Holloway's face, allowing him to brainwash her into subduing The Doctor.
- Opened the Eye of Harmony to take The Doctor's regenerations by force, causing a potential cataclysm in the process.
- Coldly murdered Chang Lee when The Doctor exposes The Master's true nature to him (this was reversed).
