The Emperor is an anti-hero/anti-villain and one of the antagonists in Akame Ga Kill!.
Appearance[]
The Emperor was a young man with shoulder-length green hair braided at the sides and green eyes. He wore a purple suit with white boots and a blue cloak, as well as a large headdress. He also carried a golden scepter with a blue orb attached to it.
Personality[]
Being just a child, the Emperor was immensely artless and blindly trusted the Prime Minister, who used him as a puppet to do whatever he wanted. Constantly under the watchful eye of his "most trusted advisor", the Emperor's perception of morality became warped, as he was unable to discern right from wrong, believing that everything he does is for the good. He obediently listened to Honest without question and sought his approval in the decisions he made, as demonstrated when he sentenced a man to death using a particularly gruesome method of execution for being against some of his chosen political measures.
Outside of his duties, however, he proved to be a kind and cheerful person who only wanted to help others the best he could, as shown when he wanted to help Esdeath find a lover. He was also curious, as he asked Honest why he wants to find a lover, to which Honest happily explained.
After breaking free and bonding with the Imperial Family's personal Teigu, Shikoutazer, the Emperor's personality was shown to have changed drastically, becoming much more cruel, arrogant, and wrathful. Furthermore, his delirium was also shown to have increased dramatically, as seen when he had little to no hesitation in unleashing his Teigu's incredibly powerful and destructive attacks within his own capital which, while managing to kill a large portion of the Revolutionary Army, the collateral damage also killed numerous imperial soldiers and even civilians in the capital. Later, after seeing his soldiers abandon the battle against the Revolutionary Army and instead prioritize move out the Capital due to the onslaught of their own attacks and ignoring the safety of his own loyal citizens, the Emperor fell into hysterical behaviour of his own actions and proclaimed them. All for being traitors, despite understanding his own actions.
After the defeat of the Empire, the young ruler realized the error of his ways. With Honest's manipulations exposed, he finally realized how far he had strayed from the path he had intended. Even when faced with his own execution, instead of despairing, the Emperor showed a strong determination to see the end of his rule with a brave face and calmly accepted his fate.
As seen in his final moments, despite everything that happened, it was shown that the Emperor still cares deeply about his country. His last request to Najenda was to rebuild it and undo all the evil that he and the Prime Minister had done to his nation.
