Sherman is supposed to marry Marie, his friend's daughter, but Marie prefers Clifford. After a day's hunting Sherman tells Marie that he killed a lion, which was actually shot by Clifford. On the day appointed for her marriage, Marie runs away. Sherman goes in search of her, and is killed by a lion. Clifford sees Marie lying on the ground and a lion approaching her. He shoots the lion, thus saving Marie's life. On their way home they find Sherman's body. They relate the story to Marie's father and he gives his consent to their marriage.
