Apple's 2023 release of the M2 Mac Studio features two models that are designed to cater to the needs of professionals in various demanding fields, whether it be graphic design, video editing, or software development.
The M2 Max Mac Studio, with a starting price of $1,999, offers a 12-core CPU, with options for a 30-core or 38-core GPU. The standard model includes 32GB of unified memory, with 64GB and 96GB of memory available as upgraded with CTO models (96GB if available only with the M2 Max 38-core GPU variant). Storage options are plentiful, with 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB SSD options. The M2 Max Mac Studio simultaneously supports up to five displays and has a memory bandwidth of 400GB/s. It outperforms the M1 Max with CPU and GPU performance that's 1.8x and 3.6x faster, respectively.
The M2 Ultra Mac Studio, with a starting price of $3,999, is designed for high-end users. It comes with a 24-core CPU and 60-core or 76-core GPU options. RAM starts at 64GB and can be upgraded to 128GB or 192GB at time of purchase. SSD storage choices are 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB. Memory bandwidth is an impressive 800GB/s memory, and the M2 Ultra Mac Studio can support up to eight displays simultaneously. The M2 Ultra version boasts CPU and GPU speeds that are 3.3x and 6.1x faster, respectively, when compared to the last-gen Mac Studio.
Both the M2 Max and M2 Ultra models cater to contemporary users. They are equipped with multiple Thunderbolt 4 ports (four for the M2 Max, and six for the M2 Ultra), two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC slot, and a 10Gb Ethernet port for high-speed internet connectivity. They also come with built-in speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
