The Pretty Cure Novel Series (小説プリキュアシリーズ)? refers to a number of Pretty Cure novels that have been published over the years. Some of them are aimed at elementary schoolers in reading comprehension and difficulty, but since 2015, Pretty Cure light novels aimed at teenagers have been published as well.

Synopsis
Sonomiya Hana is a huge fan of Nanase Yui's novel, "Princess Pretty Cure". One day, when dreaming of the Pretty Cure, a girl named Refi appears, who was never part of the book.

On Halloween, Hana visits the Japanese styled confectionary store "Haruya" where her friend Haruno Haruka works. But before they could chat, Haruka disappears in a beam of light. Hana tries searching for Haruka with the help of her grandmother, whom she addresses as "Obaa-chama", however when Hana picks up the doll she saw in her dream, she disappears as well.

When she came to, she saw the Pretty Cure. Her grandmother transformed into the wild boar fairy "Inorin" while she herself had suddenly become Refi. This world was different from the Pumpkin Kingdom in her dream. Looking at Cure Flora, Hana recognized her to be Haruka, since Yui's book was based on Haruka and the others' experiences. And that's when she knew, the real Refi had disappeared.

While Hana acts as Refi, Inorin goes to the castle to search for clues about Refi and the Cure's whereabouts. Meanwhile, Hana hears something and follows a fake voice while Flora feels an evil force.

Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure!

The Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! novel takes place during the time where Benigyo, Shakince and Orba are attacking the Cures. Orba is the main villain of this story.

Novels aimed at teenagers

Light novels aimed at teenagers have been published under Kodansha's Character Bunko label since 2015. The most recent one was the Max Heart book in late 2017.

YPC5 FPC Novel Announcement

An advertisement for the Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and Fresh Pretty Cure novels to come out in March 2016, posted at the end of the Heartcatch Pretty Cure! novel.

A Yes! Pretty Cure 5 novel was planned to release together with the Fresh Pretty Cure novel in March 2016, however it ended up being delayed indefinitely.[1]

A Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star novel was also planned to release in 2017, but nothing ever came of it.[2]

Following an absence of several years, the Pretty Cure novels published under the Character Bunko label returned in 2024, with one focused on Doki Doki! Pretty Cure.

Futari wa Pretty Cure

The Futari wa Pretty Cure novel is a side story, depicting the battle between Pretty Cure and the Dark Five of the Dotsuku Zone while focusing on the mysterious Yukishiro Sanae's youth.

It takes place during the time Poisony attacks, after episode 12. Sanae's story is similar to episode 28, and there are changes to the flow of the story, such as the time Kiriya revealed himself.

Heartcatch Pretty Cure!

Tsukikage Yuri is the main protagonist of the Heartcatch Pretty Cure! novel. The content is reconstructed from Yuri's point of view by adding her past as a Cure to the story of the anime.

The novel details her awakening as Cure Moonlight, how she fought alone before joining the others, and her relationship with Cologne. The novel also gives insight into the backstories of the Desert Apostles.

Cure Blossom, Cure Marine, and Cure Sunshine are fighting the Desert Apostles, who are desertifying and conquering the world. And Dark Pretty Cure is their next enemy. The novel explains the past history and hardships of Cure Moonlight. Can Tsukikage Yuri, who lost her transformation ability, become Cure Moonlight again?

Fresh Pretty Cure!

The Fresh Pretty Cure! novel takes place a year after the anime ends, with a completely new story, a new villain and a new type of monster. These "Fushiawase" monsters aren't made from inanimate objects, but transform humans instead, similar to Heartcatch Pretty Cure!’s monsters.

One year after the events of the anime, the three girls are third year middle school students, and the story begins when they are preparing for high school exams. Setsuna is helping rebuild Labyrinth, but visits them. Love cannot decide her dream for the future, and is envious of her friends who are studying for the exams each with a specific goal in mind. Then, suddenly, a person dressed in a suspicious black cloak who calls themself "Maphisto" appears, creating monsters called "Fushiawase" one after another, and the town panics! The four girls become Pretty Cure again with the Linkrun, the surprising identity of "Maphisto" will be revealed and the Cures transform into their Angel forms again!? Soular, Westar, Tart and Chiffon also play a role!

Smile Pretty Cure!

The Smile Pretty Cure! novel depicts Miyuki and her friends 10 years after the end of the anime. The girls, now 24, face their own hardships as adults, but somehow lost all memories of being Cures and slowly begin to forget each other as well. They start to question if this world is real or an illusion. A familiar villain from the series returns.

After the events of the original series, the five girls have grown up. Miyuki is a bookstore clerk, Akane runs her family business, Yayoi debuts as a manga artist, Nao coaches a soccer team and Reika is a middle school teacher. Is this the "world of despair" where precious friends are forgotten for real? The only way to regain the future and smiles is to transform into Pretty Cure as an adult!?

Suite Pretty Cure♪

The Suite Pretty Cure♪ novel takes place a year after the end of the anime, and is written in first-person point of view from Hojo Hibiki's perspective. There is a major focus on her over the other characters. Only a small portion of the novel involves fight scenes and characters transforming into Cures.

Online reviewers have discussed the novel's surreal nature and "heavy" plot elements.

At the same time, a black cloud starts to envelop the town, pulling in people one by one until Kanon becomes a ghost town. Finally, only Hibiki and Kanade are left behind. What is the cause of the black cloud, and can Hibiki, Kanade, Ellen and Ako become Pretty Cures and save everyone?

Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart

The Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart novel, which is by the same writer as the Futari wa Pretty Cure novel, is an adaption of the plot of the original anime series, with some new scenes added.

Doki Doki! Pretty Cure

The Doki Doki! Pretty Cure novel, written by the head writer for the anime, takes place after the events of the anime. It mainly focuses on the six Pretty Cure and Regina.

Rikka, Cure Diamond, acts as the narrator of the novel. The novel also teases the appearance of an original Pretty Cure.

Lust, Goma and Kurata serve as the main villains. Yotsuba Hiromichi, Alice's older brother, also appears in this novel.

Doki Doki! Pretty Cure 2024 Novel Visual

Pretty Cure Syndrome! 25 People Who Created The Soul Of Yes! Pretty Cure 5

This is a collection of interviews with people involved in the production of Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! (Background artists, lyricists, directors, character designers, voice actors, toy company representatives, etc). The book also shows off a lot of production material.

Katou himself is a fan of the franchise, and this is not an official guidebook. He also interviewed the Kamikita twins in 2010.
