Kon Chiaki (今千秋)? is a director and storyboard artist. During her first few years on Pretty Cure, she was credited under the alias Inaba Chiaki (いなばちあき)?.
History[]
Kon grew up watching Sailor Moon and has said that it was the reason she entered the animation industry.[1] She first worked at the animation studio Pierrot in the late 90s, where she was under the tutelage of her superior, Kamiya Jun.[2] She started as an episode director and storyboard artist, and continued in those roles for several years. She made her debut as a series director in 2006, with Higurashi — When They Cry.[3]
A fan of Pretty Cure, Kon went directly to Toei Animation producer Shibata Hiroki to work on the series.[citation needed] Her first contribution was as an episode director and storyboard artist for a few episodes in Doki Doki! Pretty Cure. The following year, she was promoted to a larger role as the main director of the Happiness Charge Pretty Cure! film.
In late 2022, to promote the second season of The Way of the Househusband, which Kon was the series director for, Netflix, which streamed and funded the anime, posted a video of the fake in-universe "Crimecatch Policure" anime, that the main character's wife is a huge fan of. The video was a parody stylized in a similar vein to the opening themes of Pretty Cure, with Kon singing the theme song as well as storyboarding and directing the visuals. Toei Animation was also credited for their "unofficial cooperation."[4]
In 2025, Kon was given the directorial role for Kimi to Idol Pretty Cure♪.
