This article is about an episode in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. |
Gung Ho! is the twenty-sixth episode of the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. This episode is the second and last in the 2-episode Super Putty story-arc as it introduces the Super Putty Patrollers. It also features the first appearance of Titanus.
Synopsis[]
Jason and Tommy struggle with working together to compete in the Team Ninja Finals. Rita takes advantage of the problem and sends down her new Super Putty Patrollers.
Plot[]
Zack and Billy are helping Jason and Tommy train for the Team Ninja Finals, but the two trainees are not very cooperative with one another. They constantly attempt to show each other up. Trini tells them that they need to "gung ho", or work together. Rita Repulsa spies on Tommy and Jason and, seeing their lack of teamwork, plans on sending the Super Putty Patrollers to Angel Grove.
As Tommy and Jason continue to struggle to fight in unison, Bulk and Skull show off their two trainees who show proficiency in fighting together.
Rita and Finster create the new Super Putties in the Monster-Matic, then send them to surprise Kimberly and Trini at a playground. When Trini is injured, Kimberly contacts the boys for help. The Putties prove to be too strong for the six and they teleport to the Command Center. Zordon sends Jason and Tommy to locate new weapons while the other four keep the Putties under control at the factory district.
Jason and Tommy, each with one half of a map, have difficulty working in harmony to find the weapons. Along the way, they are confronted by the guardian of the weapons, the brachiosaurus-themed Zord Titanus. The two morph and recognize that both of them are necessary in fulfilling this mission. Since Jason is faster, Tommy transfers his shield to Jason for protection, while Tommy uses Jason's Power Sword and his Dragon Dagger to distract Titanus. With Tommy's help, Jason is able to get to the box containing the weapons - five Thunder Slingers.
The two return to the other Rangers and they destroy the Super Putties with their new blasters. Afterwards, Zordon formally introduces the Rangers to Titanus as an ally and says that they may call on it whenever they require its assistance.
At the competition, Tommy and Jason win after utilizing "gung ho" against Bulk and Skull's duo.

Errors[]
- When Jason opens the box that contains the Thunder Slingers, the Slingers are labeled with Zyuranger's name.
- When Zack initiates the morph with Kimberly, Billy, and Trini, Kimberly's and Trini's morphing sequences are out of order.
- When Jason initiates the morph with Tommy, their morphing sequences are out of order.
- The banner in the Youth Center during Tommy and Jason's training says "Team Ninja Finals" but the banner during the competition reads "Team Finals".
- In Rita's palace, the Frankenstein Monster from the previous episode can be seen in the background.
- This error exists because the episode borrowed from Part I of the four-part Zyuranger story, which became this episode despite Gung Ho! borrowing from Part II of the storyline.
- The episode initially aired before "Life's a Masquerade", even though the latter was the beginning of the Super Putty Patrollers storyline.
- After the Super Putties are destroyed, the cameras cut to a shot of the team holding the unintroduced Thunder Slingers and Blade Blasters combination. Just before that, the Rangers finished off the Putties with only the Thunder Slingers. Despite being shown overlooking the Rangers, Jason is suddenly standing with them.
- Tommy is shown with a Blade Blaster holstered instead of the Dragon Dagger immediately after morphing. Additionally, the holster is white like a standard Ranger costume instead of black.
- At the end of the episode during the tournament, some audience members appear on both sides of the Youth Center.
Notes[]
- Goldar appears in this episode but has no lines.
- This is the second episode where Zack commands the morph for Kimberly, Billy, and Trini, since Green With Evil, Part II. Jason and Tommy are sent on a separate quest by Zordon. Jason commands the morph for Tommy during their quest.
- This episode marks the only appearance of the Thunder Slingers, which are never named in-show, with their combination with the Blade Blasters only appearing briefly due to a footage error. The term originates from Zyuranger and is only used in Power Rangers by the fans to differentiate these weapons from other parts of the Mighty Morphin arsenal.
- Footage from this episode was used in "Day of the Dumpster" when Finster makes the original Putties.
- The Super Putty masks from the USA scenes would later be used in Z Putty Patrollers' costumes in the second season.
- This is the first episode to feature an Enhancement Mode.
