A question from Mister Lazer[]

Why did you delete the stub template ?

Stub templates and failure boxes don't work. It's better just to improve the page instead of sticking a template on it that says that the page needs help. -- Danny (talk) 18:13, August 16, 2010 (UTC)

Well if you're lying about the stub template, then I can easily rearrange your contributions. No. I don't mean delete them. (because I'm not a sysop) - WolfLink33 23:10, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

I didn't mean that you couldn't create a template called "stub" and insert it in a page. I meant that doing that doesn't accomplish a positive goal. -- Danny (talk) 23:26, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

Style Sheet changes[]

Hey Danny, I don't know if it's related to your changes or Scarecroe's, but now if I make my browser window narrow the left-hand column will continue to shrink until it is not visible in the window. On the main Pixar wiki page this doesn't happen - the left column has a fixed width. But on most other pages it is not fixed width. Can you take a look and fix it? I've tested this with both Firefox and Safari with the same results, and have also done hard refreshes to see if that makes a difference, but no luck. Thanks. --Jeff (talk) 18:47, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

That's strange; I see a fixed width everywhere. That's Scott's area, though, so I'll leave your message on his talk page... -- Danny (talk) 04:49, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

User:JerryP[]

Is it OK to just delete this (and the talk) page and block the user? Or should I leave it since he hasn't modified any articles? — Jeff (talk) 13:36, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

I think delete and block. We don't want to encourage spammers to use Wikia talk pages to post links. Good catch! -- Danny (talk) 14:35, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Template:Stub[]

May I ask why the stub template was deleted? I think we might need to use it more, since a few articles here need to be expanded... so may I have permission to recreate the template? M-O Fangirl 00:32, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, it's nice to meet you! I deleted the stub template because I think that template is way overused on wikis, and it doesn't necessarily have the effect that people want it to have. On a new wiki, there are always tons of pages that could be expanded -- pretty much every page could be bigger and better!
The problem with a stub template is that nobody ever knows when to take it off. If there's one sentence there and I write twelve paragraphs, then it's pretty obvious that I should take the template out. But most wiki additions aren't like that -- it's usually a couple sentences here and there, and the page evolves slowly. So when do you take the stub template off? In general, they tend to just stick around for years.
So adding a stub template doesn't really help an article to grow. If you want to help an article grow, then start adding stuff to it! :) -- Danny (talk) 18:53, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Monsters Inc. Again[]

Hey, I took those screenshots! =O I took them with my computer off of my DVD and uploaded them to Wikipedia a while back(before they took them down). I'm surprised to see them again; Thanks for using them. And btw, I love your websites (I read ToughPigs all the time), and it's awesome to see your userpage here! =D -- Mr.Penguin
Cool -- I'm glad your screenshots found a home here! Wikipedia has gotten a lot more strict about images -- so next time you feel like taking some pics, feel free to upload them here. :) It's good to see you! -- Danny (talk) 16:35, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah; I will! Thank you :D Mr.Penguin 06:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

New Skin[]

Danny, I like the new skin, with the left sidebar, latest activity. Thanks! — Jeff (talk) 16:31, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

That's great, I'm glad you like it! I'm really happy with it so far. -- Danny (talk) 17:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Singularity[]

I have followed Pixar for a *long* time, since the days its shorts were shown at Hacker's conferences (the ones run by Glenn Tenney).

It occurred to me after watching Ratatouille that a story about the singularity would be something Pixar might be able to do. I have been thinking and writing about the singularity for a long time and have known Eric Drexler (of nanotech fame) since 1975.

I don't know if you have contacts with Pixar people like Brad Bird, but if you do, I have something that *might* be of interest to them.

Keith Henson (Google me if you want)

hkhenson@rogers.com

Thanks for the reply. To expand a bit,

"Bird has spoken about how he considers animation to be an art form, and not a genre as it is commonly treated. In fact, when he and John Walker recorded the DVD Director's Commentary for The Incredibles, he jokingly threatened to punch the next person that he caught calling animation a genre. He believes animation can be used to tell any kind of story, not just stories for children."

I think there are stories particularly ones about the Singularity [1] that would be hard to tell in any other media. "The Clinic Seed" probably fits in that category. It's a chapter out of a novel that may or may not get finished, but it stands as a short story. It's set in the time when AI and nanotechnology have been combined to solve human health concerns. This results in some "unforeseen" side effects that completely depopulates Africa. http://www.terasemjournals.org/GN0202/henson.html

Your comments about this being suitable for animation would be highly appreciated.

Setting traps for vandals[]

Hey, thanks for blocking the person who messed up the Ratatouille page! -- Ken (talk) 05:26, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

These links will be useful.[]

The first link shows a few mistakes that Pixar Wiki has made, and I hope that we will fix. ;-) The second link is a wiki that I just recently started, and (I hope and think) does not make any of those mistakes. I think it's a good example to follow. Also, I've been a little busy with Pixar Planet, SketchUp, and VexiWiki, so I haven't been around here very often. I've been looking around, and I see that you've made lots more articles. Great work, guys! ;-) --FLAGFREAK 14:48, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the links. Good luck with your wiki! -- Danny (talk) 15:57, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
VexiWiki is not mine, just like Pixar Wiki is not yours or Scott's. VexiWiki is owned by Wikia, Inc., just like Pixar Wiki is. I am only a user on VexiWiki, just like you are only a user on Pixar Wiki. Not that it's a bad thing - it's good because the community of users work together to build a wiki, not just one or two people. Wikis are communities, and anyone can help build them. Here is a list of pages that should not be protected:
  • All pages that are protected except the policy pages, which should be protected.
Have a great day! ;-) FLAGFREAK 19:06, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you're getting at, but that's okay. Good luck with the wiki that you're working on. -- Danny (talk) 22:30, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Actors[]

Ya, I guess having the actors is OK but I still think it should be a redirect. Anywyas, theres actor pages but the John Lasseter page hasnt even been created, all I can say is, WHAT? Martini833 01:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, go ahead and create it! This is a wiki -- you don't have to ask permission or anything. If you've got information that you'd like to add, go ahead and dig in! -- Danny (talk) 02:09, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello at last![]

Hi, Danny! Thanks for inviting me over, and sorry it took me so long. Anything in particular that needs to be worked on? I don't see a Current Events page like there is for Muppet Wiki (but maybe I'm blind). So I'm having trouble figuring out a good place to start. -- Tom H12 17:39, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Welcome[]

Well I'm not a Pixar fan, but I loveeee cartoons (for a grown-up shhh) and one of my favorite animated movies being The Incredibles, and I would love to help out if needed..and regarding the Big wikis thing, I actually pointed out to sannse that it was in reality the second biggest wikia and i asked her why it wasn't included in the Big wiki's list and all she said was "{{sofixit}}" and I'm sorry, if i made a mistake in doing so, I apologize..Cheers..--Cometstyles 23:30, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

No, it wasn't a problem at all. Technically, you're right, it is the second biggest. I just wanted to let you know my reason for taking it off.
And yeah, it would be great to have you helping out here! Talk to you soon! -- Danny (talk) 10:08, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Album Template[]

Hey, Danny! I noticed that you guys have a new version of the album template, where it's all one piece. Did you just recently come up with it? The reason I'm asking is because I like how it looks, and I was wondering if it would work over on Muppet. I know we'll probably have to clean stuff up over there, because some pictures are thumbs, and some are frames, and the sizes might not be right on some of them, but I was just wondering about it for a future project. Thanks! -- Ken (talk) 05:49, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Actually, Scott designed that. If you dig it, then copy it and bring it over to Current events on Muppet Wiki, and ask if people want to switch to that... -- Danny (talk) 16:12, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Tuck and Roll[]

Sorry for undoing some of those edits. Go ahead and correct my mistake, if you want. You did leave a good enough edit summary. ;-) FLAGFREAK 02:38, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

New category[]

I like the new Culture category. Interesting solution. ;-) FLAGFREAK 02:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

To Wikipedia - and beyond![]

Hi, Danny! I didn't even know you were starting a Pixar wiki! I figured that anything about Pixar would be a section of the Disney one, but I guess not.

One question. When you get a talk page message on here, does it say, "You have new messages on Pixar Wiki, pixar"? Is it supposed to do that? It does the same thing on Muppet, but I had nothing else to compare it to. I was just wondering if it was a Wikia thing, or if it was me.

Also, Scott mentioned bringing up the home video thing over on Current Events. I feel silly doing that, though, because we all know how we're doing it over at Muppet, and nobody's said to change it over there. I don't mind changing one site to match the other, but I feel they should be the same way. I'll let you guys discuss it. -- Ken (talk) 03:55, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, we're trying to pump out a bunch of new wikis, and see what sticks. Check out my user page for all the wikis that I'm working on in one way or another. Some of them aren't really set up yet, though.
The talk page message thing is there for everyone. It's a stupid glitch that I haven't had the patience to bring up with anyone yet.
And we might as well bring that up on Current events here. Things won't necessarily be the same here and on Muppet Wiki. Scott and I are involved with both, obviously, but they'll each develop their own communities. Even if they start out fairly similar, they may end up diverging quite a bit -- there are a lot of things about the structure and style of Muppet Wiki that were very different when we first started.
So Muppet Wiki is obviously the model that we're building off from, but Pixar Wiki will be its own thing -- just check out the front page design to see that. :) -- Danny (talk) 04:11, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I know things will be different on different sites, but "Toy Story Home Video" sounds like a video company to me. But I'll bring it up, just to get it started.
It was fun talking to you in "real time" tonight. I almost never get to do that. My head hurts just thinking of all the hours you're putting in, and all the shows you have to keep straight. But all of the sites that I've seen look great! Talk to you soon! -- Ken (talk) 05:18, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

character names[]

Where did you get some of the character names like Jeff Fungus? —Scott (talk) 06:16, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

The WP Monsters, Inc. page. -- Danny (talk) 12:13, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Silly, silly. —Scott (talk) 15:13, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's gotten people involved in fixing them... :) -- Danny (talk) 15:51, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Monsters Inc.[]

Hey, out of curiosity, what's your source for the Monsters Inc. stubs? I.e., are you going through the DVD, or using other sources? I ask only because of The Abominable Snowman (identified in the credits and everywhere as Yeti, and in the film's dialogue, he rejects "abominable" as an unfair nickname), and Mr. Bile (when the image is of the character Flint). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 02:09, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I took 'em from the Wikipedia article. Thank you for fixing them! -- Danny (talk) 02:11, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought as much. Wikipedia stinks in that regard, as usual. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 02:12, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, that's why we have a Pixar wiki. :) -- Danny (talk) 02:16, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Also, mind if I fix Pixar? Right now, it's the main page name, with "Main Page" a redirect. While I understand that, it's a problem when laying link foundations for an article about the actual studio/company, and I'm not sure it's worth it to have to disambig as "Pixar (company)." After all, "Muppet" doesn't redirect to "Muppet Wiki." (Also, for now, I'm redirecting "Pixar Wiki," to Main Page, since everytime I click from the interwiki links you've been laying, like on Muppet Wiki's Pixar page, it goes to a dead page). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 02:58, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, the main page is at "Pixar" right now because it'll help us get a better Google ranking for that word. We could change it to "Pixar Wiki", but I'd like to see if we can avoid it. I think the company history could be at Pixar Animation Studios. Thanks for pointing out the messed-up link on Muppet; I fixed it there. -- Danny (talk) 03:03, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I still don't like it at all. Like I said, we don't do that on Muppet Wiki, Flash Gordon doesn't redirect to the main page on your Wiki there, and so on. Google ranking is great, but I think it's silly to put that ahead of what works best in terms of articles and titles. "Pixar Animation Studios" is basically a secondary title, but their mine identity is simply Pixar (which was what the company was renamed in 1986 when Steve Jobs bought out a LucasFilm computer division, and is what was used on their shorts), and that's what people would look for. Already, you casually created a link to Pixar on John Ratzenberger, as I did on Jeff Pidgeon, and if/as this Wiki grows, I'm not sure it's fair to expect people to always remember to change it to Pixar Animation Studios, or to fix it. It's counter-intuitive. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 03:06, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, some of our new wikis do that, when it's a show -- Pushing Daisies, Reaper, etc. "Flash Gordon" doesn't use that as the main page, because that's the name of the main character. But you're probably right. Let's get Scott's input; this wiki is more his than mine. -- Danny (talk) 03:10, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I think the article for the company should be at the company's name, Pixar Animation Studios. —Scott (talk) 03:19, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
The original company name was Pixar, up until Toy Story (or rather, after; I just checked the credits, they were still just "Pixar"), and in their logo, "animation studio" is clearly a subtitle. Plus I still think a lot of people would go to a Pixar Wiki and naturally type "Pixar," and want to go to an article about the company, not a main page redirect. But as Danny said, I guess it's up to you. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 04:19, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Until 2001, their website presented the official company name simply as Pixar: "Pixar is an Academy Award-winning computer animation studio with the technical, creative and production capabilities to create a new generation of animated feature films, CD-ROM titles, merchandise and other related products. Pixar's objective is to combine proprietary technology and world-class creative talent to develop computer-animated feature films with a new three-dimensional appearance, memorable characters and heartwarming stories that appeal to audiences of all ages. The first such film, Toy Story, was created and produced by Pixar and is distributed by Walt Disney Pictures." At the very least, I still think Pixar would be more useful as a redirect to Pixar Animation Studios, than to the main page. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 04:35, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Muppet Wiki information[]

Hello Danny. I just came by to tell you that I found Pam Arciero's birthdate on Facebook, and apparently, it's May 8th. It didn't say the year that she was born but I'm sure I'll find out eventually. So if you wish, please add this information to the Muppet Wiki. Thank you. -- GrouchMan (Send a note then scram!! P.S. Have a rotten day!!!!) 15:40, January 29, 2012 (UTC)
