Ted is a minor character in Monsters, Inc.

Monsters, Inc.[]

Sulley: "Hey, Ted! Good morning!"
Ted: (clucks)
Sulley: "See that, Mikey? Ted's walking to work!"
Mike: "Big deal! Guy takes five steps and he's there."
—Sulley and Mike about Ted.

"Ted must be the tallest monster in Monstropolis, towering above the other monsters and most of the buildings, too. He has to be very careful where he treads so he won't squash somebody. Ted sounds a bit like a chicken, but he's friendly and will always cluck hello!"[1]

Ted is a gigantic, scaly Godzilla-like monster, and only his legs are visible.

At the beginning of the film, when Mike and Sulley are walking to work, they encounter him while crossing the road. Sulley shouts up at him to say good morning, and he clucks in reply. He also uses Ted as an example of someone else who is walking to work, which Mike was complaining about. He is seen applauding in Put That Thing Back Where It Came From Or So Help Me.

Trivia[]

  • In the DVD commentary for Monsters, Inc., Pete Docter said that Ted was supposed to sound like Godzilla, but they were not able to get the rights to use his roar from Toho, so instead, they went the opposite way and made him cluck like a chicken. Coincidentally, many of the Godzilla suits produced from 1993 to 2004 were contracted out to a special effects company named MONSTERS, Inc.
  • In one of the film's outtakes, Ted is replaced by Rex from the Toy Story franchise.
  • Ted shares the same first name with Ted Pauley, a scarer at Monsters, Inc.
  • Ted's face was revealed for the Monsters Inc. Ride & Go Seek attraction, where he hides behind a laundry clothesline.
