Was Ist Was Band 071: Piraten is a German book of the "Was ist Was" book series, which aims to teach history and science to children. The "Was ist Was" Series was created as German translation of the American "How and Why Wonder Books", which however were discontinued after the 1970s, unlike their German counterparts, which are still published today. The name translates to "What is What? Volume 071: Pirates". The book is the 71st book in a series of (as of 2017) 140 volumes. The edition of 2005 features Hector Barbossa and several other pirates on the front cover. The current edition (2013) features a Jack Sparrow look-a-like.
