Anemones

Hi everyone, wow it's the last day of June already and 2023 is half over … time is flying by!! Today’s card is a birthday card and is the first one I have made with one of the 2 stamps I treated myself to from Tracy Evans’ AALL & Create June release. My original intention was to buy one of the floral stamps from the May release but it sold out immediately on Create and Craft, so I ended up buying this one instead and I am very pleased with it. I also had another little try out with my new Inktense pencils .. I really love their vibrancy and would certainly like some more colours over and above the 12 I have right now!! Finally I brought into play my new set of A&C sentiments - I just love the vintage typewriter font!

I stamped my smaller flower circle, then masked it and stamped the larger flower. I coloured both with Inktense pencils, then masked both flowers and created a smoosh background with lilac Distress Oxide ink dabbed on using acetate. I added some subtle harlequin stencilling in the corners and some DOX colour to the circle, then a little background vintage script stamping in grey. The script is not an A&C stamp (it is by Lost Coast Designs) but I used Tracy’s technique of not mounting on an acrylic block but inking parts of the stamp and then stamping and “flexing” the stamp to lift it. I stamped my sentiments in Versamark, heat embossed in white then cut out and attached, then stamped a bird and a teeny heart onto separate card, coloured and fussy cut then attached. Finally I matted the finished panel onto co-ordinating card stock and added some white gel pen highlights to the flowers.

I was loving the stamps and Inktense pencils so much that I got a bit carried away, and also decorated the front and back of the envelope, and inside the card.

I don’t normally use colour on the envelope but I understand that Inktense is permanent once dry, so fingers crossed!!

Stamps: AALL & Create #980 Anemone, #908 Quill Ends, #453 Heart Grunge, #533 Bring On the Sentiments; Lost Coast Designs ATC Misc Set 6 (background script); Visible Image Birthday Wishes (sentiment inside card);
Media: Derwent Inktense pencils; Tim Holtz Distress Oxide ink ( Shaded Lilac); Versafine Clair (Nocturne, Morning Mist); Versamark; detail white embossing powder; gel pen (white);
Tools: Darkroom Door stencil - Diamonds.

While I was in the swing I also made a pair of ATC’s with the smaller flower from the same stamp set.

I created a smoosh background on a snippet of white stamping card using Distress Oxides to resemble aged paper, then stamped the background script in sepia and cut the piece into 2 each 3.25” x 2.25”. I stamped the single flower on top, then stamped the single flower head and the flower circle again onto separate snippets of card, coloured with Inktense pencils then fussy cut and attached. I stamped the word “Dream” directly onto the ATC panel then added  the word “Love” cut out from washi tape. I matted each ATC onto standard ATC size black card cut from another snippet, and finished with white gel pen highlights and Posca pen spatters.

Here's a closeup of one of them.

Stamps: AALL & Create #980 Anemone, #533 Bring On the Sentiments; Lost Coast Designs ATC Misc Set 6 (background script);

Vintage Butterfly

Hi everyone, today I would like to share a vintage style card I made when I was in an olde worlde kind of mood, and keen to use one of the vintage style pen nibs I recently picked up in a local art supplies shop.

I cut a piece of white stamping card 6.5” x 4.5” and created a smoosh background with three colours of Distress Oxide inks. I stamped the main image in Pinecone Versafine Clair, then blended more DOX round the edge of the panel to give a more vintage look. I stamped the butterfly again onto separate card and heat embossed, coloured with more DOX, fussy cut and attached. I stamped the birds and quills onto separate card, coloured, fussy cut and attached, then stamped, coloured and attached my sentiment words. I matted and layered everything onto chocolate brown and aqua card stock, and finally added a vintage style pen nib for the butterfly body, and Glossy Accents to the pen nibs.

Here is an angled picture to show the dimension.

Stamps: AALL & Create #449 Through the Meadows, #908 Quill Ends, #533 Bring On the Sentiments;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Antique Linen, Stormy Sky, Frayed Burlap, Vintage Photo, Broken China); Versafine Clair (Pinecone); Glossy Accents;

That CAS Feeling

Hi everyone, I spent a whole afternoon crafting session making a card with a variety of elements and techniques that required quite a bit of concentration (to be shared at a future time), so when I had a short window of time left over at the end I just felt like making something simple. I also wanted to have a little practice with my new Inktense pencils - I have bought a small tin to try as I had a £5 off voucher for Hobbycraft, so I thought I would start with a simple image.

I cut a square of stamping card, stamped my floral image and coloured with Inktense pencils. As the image isn't particularly large I decided it needed a prominent sentiment, so I chose this lovely Indigo Blu one. I added some light Distress Oxide smooshing applied with acetate arou d the flower, and three teeny heart gems, and matted onto red card stock. All my corners were rounded with a X-Cut corner punch.

Stamps: AALL & Create #904 Flower Journey; Indigo Blu sentiment;
Media: Derwent Inktense pencils; Tim Holtz Distress oxide ink (Twisted Citron); Versafine Clair (Nocturne);
Tools: X-Cut corner punch.

Challenges I would like to enter:

I Spy With My Little Eye #4 / 5

Hi everyone, it's Midsummer's Day today - the longest day of the year, so plenty of daylight for crafting!! It is also the 3rd Wednesday of the month already. so it's time once more for a new I Spy With My Little Eye... challenge over at Ellibelle's Corner.

This time we are having a two month long challenge due to the summer holiday period, so we are offering a choice of two themes so you don't get bored!! Without further ado, the themes are:

I Spy With My Little Eye

A Sweet Treat

or

Warm and Sunny Colours

Plenty of possibilities there we hope you’ll agree, so we hope you will be able to join us and look forward to seeing your makes.

Here's my card for the challenge, using warm and sunny colours.

For this card I used several of the new supplies from my recent win over at Visible Image - what could be warmer and sunnier than a sunflower on a summer's day?? I cut a square of stamping card, and used my new Heart Ink stencil with Lavinia hill masks and a home made cloud stencil to create a background landscape of grass and sky with blended Distress oxide inks. I then used the heart mask from the heart Ink stencil set and overlaid the Strobes stencil to create a sunray effect. I stamped the sunflower, then stamped again onto separate card, coloured with Distress watercolour pencils before fussy cutting and attaching. I also stamped some additional spatters from the same stamp set, and my sentiment. Finally I matted the finished piece onto green cardstock and my card blank, and decorated the sunflower with some white gel pen and Glossy Accents.

Here's an angled shot to show the Glossy Accents.

Stamps: Visible Image Sunflower Grunge, Golden Daffodils (sentiment);
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Mowed Lawn, Bundled Sage, Tumbled Glass, Squeezed Lemonade); Distress Watercolor Pencils (Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo,Twisted Citron, Peeled Paint); Versafine Clair (Nocturne); gel pen (white; Glossy Accents;
Tools: Visible Image stencils - Heart Ink and Strobes; Lavinia hills mask; home made clouds mask.

Challenges I would like to enter:

Allsorts #733 - Anything Goes with option Blooms, Bees and/or Butterflies (2nd entry)
Beautiful Blossoms #6 - Anything Floral Goes (2nd entry)

1000 Not Out!

Hi everyone, today's post is rather a special one for me, as I realised that I have clocked up 1000 posts since I started blogging back in June 2008!

An awful lot of things have changed in my life since then ... I have lost both my parents, changed my job, bought another house and finished work, and my style of crafting has changed a lot from the early days. It has taken me a long time to get to 1000 posts, as after being very active in the period 2008-13, my cardmaking and blogging slowed considerably when my mum passed away in 2013, and fell off a cliff when my dad had his final illness and died in 2015. I never really got back into it until I was made redundant from my job in 2021 during the pandemic, at which point I started looking out my old craft supplies, seeing how much styles had changed so buying lots of new ones!!  During the past 2 years I have really got back into it, reconnected with some old blogging friends and made new ones, and joined a number of Facebook crafting groups too.

There is a certain serendipity about today's card, as I made it before I realised this would be  my 1000th post; but it really represents the wheel turning full circle. it is another masculine card made primarily with my recent Visible Image winnings, plus my new torn edge rectangle dies that I have just purchased from Amazon to help with vintage style makes. It turns out that the first card I ever posted on my blog was also a vintage car, which also included plaid/checked background paper and faux “rivets” - it was my dear dad's 80th birthday card!

Here's a picture from that first post ... it was a very small photo and quite blurry plus I’d not heard of watermarking back then, but this card brings back a lot of memories of my dad and I'm pretty sure I still have it as I found and kept it when I cleared out my parents' house.

Fast forward 15 years, and here is today's card which is a 7” square.

This card is actually quite unusual for me these days, insomuch as I used a die for matting and designer papers for the background, but I felt it suited the kind of look I wanted for this image. I die cut a torn edged rectangle from cream card stock, and stamped the car image in dark brown. I also stamped some 2nd generation numbers in the corners, then blended Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Inks round the edges to give an aged look. I matted onto a couple pieces of old design paper in shades of cream and brown which I also matted onto dark brown card stock with deckle cut edges. I stamped my grungy birthday sentiment (I absolutely love that sentiment!!), then stamped my vintage style nib onto separate cream card, coloured, fussy cut and attached.  Lastly I added Glossy Accents to the car headlights and windscreen, and attached two metallic rivets kindly gifted to me by Lorraine.

Here's a picture with the co-ordinating envelope.

I'm really am very pleased with my new VI cars stamp set ... so useful for those difficult masculine makes!

Today Is a New Day

Hi everyone, just a very quick post from me today to share another AALL & Create card I made recently. I wasn't going to share this until later, but it was very important for me to make this post today so that I can post something special tomorrow ... watch this space!

I cut a 6.5" x 4.5" piece of stamping card, and created a smoosh background by inking up an acrylic block with three colours of Distress Oxide, spritzing with water and then "stamping" onto the card. I then stamped the focal flower in black and coloured the leaves with a Distress watercolor pencil, added a bit of background stamping and my sentiment. I also added a bit of shading to the right of the heart using DOX and the Elongated Hearts stencil, and some white Posca pen spatters. Finally I edged the finished panel in black and matted simply onto blue card stock.

Stamps: AALL & Create #896 Forget Me Not, #906 Art Notes, #531 Textured Florals;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Salvaged Patina, Twisted Citron, broken China); Distress Watercolor Pencil (Twisted Citron); Versafine Clair (Nocturne, Morning Mist, Warm Breeze); Posca pen (white);
Tools: AALL & Create stencil #156 Elongated Hearts.

Art From the Heart

Hi everyone, today I would like to share the results of a little playtime I had with some recently purchased AALL & Create stamps, incorporating a couple of techniques from recent Tracy Evans snippets videos, but with no specific outcome in mind.  This design just sort of developed organically as I was going along, and isn't for any particular occasion but hopefully will be suitable to enclose some ATC's when I trade them!

I wanted to do something with my Elongated Hearts stencil, and originally wanted to try Tracy's technique of masking with the gelli plate; but that wouldn't work for me as my gel plate is 6" square and this heart is too big for that ... it needs to go onto a 7" x 5" card. Therefore I created a paper heart stencil template and mask for the largest stencil heart, and used the stencil to blend Distress Oxide to create a soft smudgy heart. I stamped some flowers through the paper template (to enable me to stamp to the edge of the stencil shape, as a mylar stencil is too thick to allow that). At that point I had a lot of white space on the card, so I filled it with two stamped heart/flower images, and coloured the flowers on each one with Distress watercolor pencil and Spectrum Noir sparkle pen. I added a little grey background stamping in the corners, then stamped my wording onto separate card, coloured with DOX, edged in black and attached. Still I couldn't leave it alone, so I added a little background splodginess with grey DOX on acetate, replacing my heart mask beforehand but still managing to get some on my sentiment - all part of the grungy effect, right?? Finally I matted the finished piece simply onto black linen card stock and a 7" x 5" card blank.

Stamps: AALL & Create #896 Forget Me Not, #304 Heartfelt, #906 Art Notes; sentiment - Indigo Blu Sarah's Choice;
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Picked Raspberry, Lost Shadow, Hickory Smoke); Distress Watercolor Pencils (Picked Raspberry); Versafine Clair (Nocturne, Morning Mist); Spectum Noir Sparkle pen (clear); white gel pen;
Tools: AALL & Create stencil #156 Elongated Hearts.

Mystical Moonlit Meadow

Hi everyone, I recently saw a tutorial by the lovely Jo Rice, and it reminded me that I have been  rather neglecting my Lavinia stamps lately, plus the fact that I have most of the Brilliance metallic dewdrop inks Jo used and don’t play with them very often …so I thought I would CASE her card and have a go at making something similar.

Here’s my interpretation.

I cut a 13.5cm square of black card, and blended Brilliance Moonlight White ink through a circle aperture mask with a small blending brush to create a moon … I love this effect! I then stamped various flowers and grasses using Brilliance gold, silver, copper and white inks … a partially different selection of flower stamps from Jo, and I used silver rather than platinum Brilliance ink as I don’t have the platinum, so I brightened up the scene by adding a few grasses stamped in white. I then added some stars by dotting white gel pen, blended some more white ink with a small brush to create some mist, highlighted my moon by edging with Sakura Stardust pen, and edged the panel with Brilliance copper ink. Finally I matted the finished piece onto matte gold card stock and a 7” square card blank onto which I had already stamped a birthday sentiment.

Stamps: Lavinia Wild Summer Flower, Fairy Dandelions, Nigella Damascena, Field Grass; sentiment - Visible Image You’re a Classic;
Media: Brilliance Dewdrop pigment inks (Moonlight White, Starlite Silver, Galaxy Gold, Cosmic Copper); Versafine Clair (Nocturne); Sakura Stardust pen (clear); white gel pen.

Challenges I would like to enter:

Allsorts #732 - Anything Goes with option Birthdays (2nd entry)
Crafty Catz #641 - Anything Goes
Flower Challenge #81 - Use Your Favourite Flower
(I struggle to pick a favourite, but I do love dandelion clocks and cow parsley which I think looks very like the Wild Summer Flower stamp).
Simon Says (Wednesday) - Flowers (3rd entry)
Word Art Wednesday #599/600 - Anything Goes (3rd entry)

I loved the effect of the moon on this project, but wasn’t very satisfied with my Brilliance ink stamping as I found it to be less crisp, and the silver was quite faint; however it was good to try something a bit different and it has given me a few new ideas for future projects.

That’s all from me for today - take care and thanks for visiting.

Rainbow Joy

Hi everyone, this month’s Visible Image FB ATC swap has a theme of Rainbow Joy, so of course I decided to join in as I love rainbows … who doesn’t?? I really love this swap, and even more so right now as last week I won the second anniversary swap top prize as described in yesterday's post.. Ironically I only used my new stash for some background stamping and the sentiment on this project, so still plenty of untapped potential for future projects!!  As usual I made both an ATC and coordinating card for my swap partner, using only Visible image stamps; and they have now arrived so it’s ok to share!

First the ATC …

I cut a piece of white stamping card 3.25” x 2.25”, blended stripes of Distress Oxide inks in rainbow colours, then spattered with water to create a faux bleach effect. I stamped the flower then stamped it again onto separate card, over stamped with grey text then cut out and coloured with Spectrum Noir clear sparkle pen. I stamped some random spatters and a few grungy background circles, then attached the flower head onto the original stamped flower. I masked the word “sunflower” and stamped and heat embossed in white onto black card, then cut out and attached and added a teeny red heart gem.  Finally I edged the finished piece with black marker and matted onto standard 3.5" x 2.5" black linen card stock. The flower is very sparkly, but for some reason my camera just would not capture that today!

Stamps: Visible Image Creative Chaos (flower), Sketched Tulips (script), Sunflower Grunge (spatters and wording), Where Flowers Bloom (background circles);
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Blueprint Sketch, Wilted Violet); Versafine Clair (Nocturne, Morning Mist); Versamark; detail white embossing powder; Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen (clear).

Challenges I would like to enter:

Secondly, here is the co-ordinating card.

I used very similar techniques to the ATC, but with more spatters, different background stamps and sentiment.

Stamps: Visible Image Creative  Chaos (flower, background circles and sentiment), Sketched Tulips (script), Sunflower Grunge (spatters), Christmas Robin (spatters);
Media: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Blueprint Sketch, Villainous Potion, Wilted Violet); Versafine Clair (Nocturne, Morning Mist); Versamark; detail white embossing powder; Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen (clear).
