Pac-Man World refers to a canceled Pac-Man game, which was in development sometime in between 2009 and 2010. It was intended to be a follow-up to the Pac-Man World series, and likely was to serve as either a "Pac-Man World 4" or a reboot of the World series entirely.

Known Information[]

Not much is known about the game, as it was never officially announced by Namco or any related parties. However, two short gameplay videos were recorded and released by Atsushi Saito, who also worked on 2010's Pac-Man Party, on his website. Two pieces of concept artwork were also shown by former Namco employee Tim Tao; Tao's works are also where the tentative name "Pac-Man World" is said to be the game's title.

The Saito recordings show Pac-Man in both a beach area (possibly intended to be Buccaneer Beach) and a snowy-like world. Pac-Man has very wild and zany animations compared to other Pac-Man games, similar to Taz from Looney Tunes. Pac-Man is shown to fight mainly crab-like enemies, and uses the iconic fruit as power-ups, such as one that turns him into a top that can allow him to move on certain surfaces.

Trivia[]

  • This project shares some similarities with Unknown Soosa Kim Pac-Man game, another canceled Pac-Man game from around the same time period. However, it is unknown if these two projects are related.
  • In early 2009, it was reported that Hirokazu Yasuhara (who worked on the original Sonic the Hedgehog games) was working on a new Pac-Man title; with it being implied that it was an "action" game. Ultimately, Yasuhara was credited as a "Senior Game Designer" in Pac-Man Party; though the specific wording of "action game" may imply that he was originally (or additionally) working on the canceled Pac-Man World project.[1]
