Maya is a young woman from Great Ground. She appears in Legend of the Rainbow Island.[1]

Maya is a young woman with shoulder-length black hair. She wears a red dress over a yellow shirt and red shoes.
She bears a striking resemblance to Kaya, something even Usopp takes note of.

Abilities and Powers[]
Maya has the ability to communicate with Great Ground's giant sea turtle.
Turtles[]
Maya has a pet baby sea turtle, who's part of a set of triplets, though only he has hatched. For unknown reasons, he has the ability to speak.
History[]
Past[]
At some point, Maya got into the habit of speaking to Great Ground's giant turtle every day.
Legend of the Rainbow Island[]
Reira and Harry came to Great Ground to retrieve the Dokudamin, and threatened Maya to give it to them. Somehow, she convinced them to wait until the next day.
Maya was walking on the beach when she ran into Nami, Usopp, and Dias. Welcoming them to the island, she introduced herself and asked if they needed help with anything. When they revealed they were looking for an herb, she offered to guide them to Cola Village to ask her grandfather.
After the Straw Hats met the island's giant turtle, they found her in the village and asked her to help them get the Dokudamin. She declined, however, and offered to potentially help them the next day.
The next day, she went to speak to the turtle, as she does every day. On her way, she was interrupted by Reira and Harry for a second time, again demanding that she get them the Dokudamin. However, as they spoke to her, they were followed by the Straw Hat trio, causing Reira to challenge them to a fight. After the Straw Hats forced the Drayke Pirates members to retreat, Maya questioned them, pointing out they were also pirates.
Nami explained why they needed the Dokudamin, including Atoli's kidnapping and the story of the Rainbow Eye. Maya agreed that they could have the Dokudamin, but explained that not even she could get it; while she could communicate with the giant turtle, it still wouldn't let her near its eggs. Unable to retrieve the herb, they returned to the village, intent on thinking of a solution or waiting until the eggs hatched.
The next day, Maya went down to the beach again. Upon somehow learning of the well's poisoning by Reira and Harry, she returned to the giant turtle's shrine, but before she could try to take the Dokudamin to give to the pirates, she was interrupted by Nami. While Nami convinced her that they would help against the Drayke Pirates, they were interrupted by Usopp, who was followed by Reira and Harry themselves. The pirates fought amongst themselves, and when the Drayke Pirates were convinced they had lost, they set off an explosion, shattering the eggs with Harry's spikes.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake, and Maya explained that Great Ground was built atop Great Ground, a Sea King. Scared for their lives, the two Drayke Pirates left the island, and Great Ground calmed down. After Usopp noticed that the baby turtles had hatched safely, Maya thanked the Straw Hats for their help, and offered them the Dokudamin, as the giant turtle no longer needed it.
The four of them then returned to the village, and Maya saw the Straw Hats off the next morning.
