Kung-Fu Dugong Unison March is a free-to-play rhythm game developed by Ougi Works and Bandai Namco. The game was released on Android and iOS in Japan on July 13, 2023. It ended service and was delisted from app stores on January 15, 2024.[2] Since it is a offline game that does not require online support, it can still be played as long as it has been downloaded beforehand.

This game won the One Piece Game Award as part of a game development competition held for One Piece 1000 Logs.[3][4]

Gameplay[]

In four playable levels, the players move the dugong in rhythm, whereby the accuracy is rated as "Good", "Just" or "Bad" and the points, the bounty, are determined. When encountering enemies, a battle starts and the player must prevent the Dugong from taking damage.[4] The players also have to avoid obstacles like rocks and collect boost items like food or treasure chests. The overarching goal is to meet master Monkey D. Luffy.

Development[]

The game was developed by Ougi Works' Yoh Nakamori, Tom Ikeda, and Takuma Okubo. The group received 2 million yen as part of the award, with potentially 20 million in further development funding from Bandai Namco.

To create concept art for the game, Ougi Works modeled Kung-Fu Dugongs and other characters out of clay. This was the main factor Bandai Namco cited for granting the Grand Prize.[4]

Trivia[]

  • The Black Belt Penguin and the Sumo Capybara were only seen in the game's presentation at the game development competition, not in the finished game. It can be assumed that the initial plan was to replay the Sea Animal Pirates' journey searching for Luffy.
