Blood types (血液型, Ketsuekigata?) are a classification of blood based on substances present in it. The world has not yet adopted a universal naming system for blood types, but the most commonly system uses the letters F, S, X and XF. In some countries, the letters A, B, and C are used instead.[1]

Blood types so far have been applied to humans and fish-men, who share the same kind of blood.[2] In the most common FSX system, each person has one of four blood types:[1]

Humans and fish-men have identical blood and can donate blood to one another according to their blood types. However, on Fish-Man Island, there is a law forbidding the two races from sharing blood with one another. This law was originally put in place by humans, who looked down upon the fish-men as monsters.[3] In addition, anti-human groups such as the New Fish-Man Pirates are known to lynch any fish-men caught violating this law and sympathizing with humans.[4][5]
However, the pirate Jinbe ignored these laws and customs when he donated blood to Monkey D. Luffy in public. King Neptune subsequently called the laws a "curse".[2]

Trivia[]
- The FSX classification system is roughly equivalent to the real-life ABO blood group system.
- The RH classification is equivalent to the real-life Rh blood group system.
- Interestingly, all the characters with blood type S (RH-) were born from a multiple birth, with the exception of Fisher Tiger.
