Barnsley er et administrativt distrikt i South Yorkshire i England. Administrasjonssenteret er byen Barnsley. Siden South Yorkshire i 1986 avskaffet grevskapsrådet er distriktet selvstyrt, på linje med en enhetlig myndighet.

Distriktet ble opprettet i 1974 ved av bydistriktene Barnsley, Cudworth, Darfield, Darton, Dearne, Dodworth, Hoyland Nether, Penistone, Royston,Wombwell og Worsborough samt Penistone landdistrikt, og deler av Hemsworth og Wortley landdistrikter ble slått sammen. Distriktet dekker et areal på 329,05 km² og hadde 231 221 innbyggere i 2011.^[1]

Motorveien M1 går rett gjennom distriktet. Den vestlige delen er for det meste landsbygd, mens den østlige er urban og industrialisert. Omkring ni tideler av befolkningen bor i den østlige delen. 9 % av distriktet tilhører nasjonalparken Peak District.
