Subspace is a location in Super Mario Bros. 2. Its ground is black and its sky is dark blue. Mario, Luigi, Toad, or Peach can only access it by use of Magic Potions. They create doors leading to Subspace. When entered, Mario or the three other characters have a few seconds to grab a Mushroom (if it appears) and some Coins (which can be pulled from the roots in the ground). In all remakes (Super Mario All-Stars, its remake Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition, and Super Mario Advance.), Subspace's ground has color, and it isn't just black.
