Punch-Out‼: Gold Edition (sometimes referred to as Punch-Out‼ Gold or Punch-Out‼ Special) was released on the 28th of September in 1987 in Japan only, and it was the first version of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out‼ that ever released for home consoles. The game was achieved by either submitting your high score from the game Famicom Golf: U.S. Course for Famicom Disk System, or by winning it in a raffle.
Gameplay[]
Changes[]
This game is very similar to the other versions that released later on, but there are some differences, such as:
- There’s no Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream final boss, making Super Macho Man the final boss.
- The “Title Bout” jingle is different in this version.
- The game over screen text says "After training, Mac, coming back!" while in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! it says "Start training! Make a comeback!". It was probably changed for Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! as the game over text in this game doesn’t make that much sense.
- Some of the color pallets are different.
The first fight in the game, which is against Glass Joe, and which features a different color pallet than the original game.
- There are a few differences in the opening cutscene of the game, such as it misspelling "trainer" as "trainner" and the quote at the end of the intro says "Also playing the role of Mac…It’s you to fight!" The final version only says "Also playing the role of Mac…it’s you!"
The end of the game's intro, featuring a spelling error.
