Bros. Attacks are the most famous form of Special Attack in the Mario & Luigi franchise. They appear in all games except Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. As do all Special Attacks, Bros. Attacks have a certain Special Point cost, with their cost increasing with their strength. Bros. Attacks are the most common Special Attack, and only Mario and Luigi can do them.
Bros. Attacks are learned in Stardust Fields. They are the only Special Attack type in this game. Bros. Attacks have 3 modes: a starter mode that slows down time to give the player enough reaction time, a normal mode that has the move go normally, and a harder mode that increases their power and reduces the point cost. Cues are provided in all but the harder mode. Mario and Luigi obtain them in the following order:
Chopper Bros. and Knockback Bros. (Chasteau de Chucklehuck)
Fire Bros. and Thunder Bros. (Oho Oasis)
Swing Bros. and Cyclone Bros. (Sledge and Mallet's Workshops)
Mario-initiated[]
Splash Bros.: This attack utilizes the Spin Jump Technique. Mario and Luigi stack up with the A and B buttons. They then spin high over the foe. Press A to perform a downward stomp. Be careful: Mario takes damage if he hits a spiny foe! Cost: 4 Special Points.
Super Splash Bros.: Press A when the Mario brothers try to stack up. When this happens, press A, and Mario continues his assault as his brother Luigi bops him into the air. Press B to toss Mario at the foe, and then press A to stomp the foe. This may not deal as much damage, but can hit spiny enemies.
Chopper Bros.: This is based off the Luigi Dunk technique. The Mario brothers perform the Luigi dunk. Luigi then burrows over to the target as Mario charges at them. Press B when they get close, and Luigi burrows out of the ground, knocking Mario into the air as he does. Mario must then swing his hammer repeatedly to deal damage to his target, dealing more damage the more you press A to have him attack his foe. Cost: 5 Special Points.
Super Chopper Bros.: Rather than stop in front of his target, Luigi burrows under his target. Press B at that time to have Luigi pop out of the ground, and press A to have Mario hammer him back in. This can go on for eternity, but eight hits are required for the excellent rating.
Swing Bros.: Mario swings Luigi around with A, then releases to throw him. Press B, and Luigi kicks his opponent, bouncing off of them.
Super Swing Bros.: Press A after Luigi's kick to have Mario leap forward and catch his brother by his hands. Mario and Luigi spiral above their target. Press A and B as the Mario brothers come down on their target and alternatingly mash them for more damage. In the 3DS version's hard mode, Luigi flies at an upward angle, so Mario must actually leap up their. Press A when the Mario brothers slam down.
Fire Bros.: This attack utilizes the firebrand weapon. Mario charges up fireballs with A, then passes them to Luigi, who hits them with his hammer with B.
Super Fire Bros.: Rather than let the fireballs just pass over his head, Mario can bop them with A. Mario will then jump at the fireball and then spike it, dealing damage to his target.
Luigi-initiated[]
Bounce Bros.: This attack utilizes the high jump. Luigi jumps on Mario's shoulders and then jump into the air. Press B, then A. Mario and Luigi then strike the foe with B.
Super Bounce Bros.: Press A to initiate, then B to separate the tower, then hit A and B to kick.
Knockback Bros.: This attack utilizes the Mini Mario gimmick. Luigi bashes Mario's head and then Mario curls up his body into a ball. Luigi then smacks Mario with B. Press A to have Mario kick his target.
Super Knockback Bros.: Press A after Mario strikes the foe. Repeat the process until the command fails. 5 are needed for the excellent rating in the remake.
Cyclone Bros.: This starts off like Knockback Bros., but Mario spins around and the Bros. stack up and Luigi is on top. Press B to strike the foe, but if they collide with the foe without attacking, the Bros. bounce off and deal less damage.
