The DArkn∊∬, also referred to as the Darkness, is the main antagonist of the ongoing 2022 horror-adventure miniseries Learning with Pibby: The Grand Adventure.

The Darkness is a mysterious and nigh-unstoppable mass of darkness and the archenemy of Pibby. It assimilates and corrupts fictional characters and their works/universes growing larger and more powerful with every character and world consumed. It seeks to grow powerful enough to assimilate all of fiction itself and then escape into the real world by literally breaking The Fourth Wall.

What Makes It Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

• Although it is a mass of darkness, there is so far no proof of it lacking moral agency. The Darkness itself also has a clear manipulative, bloodthirsty and sadistic personality beyond simply consuming everything in its path as it has the presence of mind to manipulate certain people and taunts Pibby numerous times.
• It plans to consume the entire fictional multiverse and then destroy a barrier on the border of the fiction multiverse called The Fourth Wall so that it can transcend fiction and begin assimilating the real world.
• It starts a multiversal apocalypse by corrupting countless fictional characters and their worlds, plunging said worlds into chaos and transforming everyone it corrupts into its zombified, fanatic slaves who worship it as a benevolent god and then forcing them to help it corrupt other characters and worlds. It also has no qualms with forcing its slaves to simply kill anyone who resists it.
  • Whenever the Darkness assimilates someone, it removes them of their subconsciousness so it can control their physical forms. Afterward, it places their subconsciousness into a void within itself where they are in a state of endless agony and torment, leaving them in a fate worse than death.
• It took over Pibby's cartoon and consumed her best friend, Bun Bun, right in front of her. It would later go on to assume Bun Bun as its primary form to torment Pibby (who is a little girl) and seduce her into being consumed by it.
• While chasing Pibby, it consumes numerous beloved fictional universes and all characters within such as Scooby Doo, Adventure Time, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Steven Universe, The Amazing World of Gumball, The Powerpuff Girls, Looney Tunes, etc.
• It forces its enslaved minions to assimilate or even kill their friends or family members, watching as they do so with sadistic amusement.
• It sends its assimilated victims to relentlessly pursue and capture Pibby and her allies.
• It uses Bun Bun to demoralize Pibby, mocking and ridiculing the time they spent together on her preschool show, making Bun Bun say that he had more fun with the Darkness than he ever had with Pibby. It also makes Bun Bun sing a song mocking Pibby for her home being taken away and for failing to save him, as well as for the control the Darkness now has over her life.
• The emotional trauma the Darkness puts Pibby through begins to affect her more and more as the miniseries goes on, transforming her into a hardened, experienced and slightly vulgar warrior contrasting from the cute, innocent little girl she started as.
• It reveals to Hector Boddy that he is a fictional character created for the audience's amusement, which causes him to have an existential crisis and panic attack. The Darkness mocks him over this.
• Although it recruits Hector and promises to spare him from being assimilated, this was only so that it could use him as a mole to spy on Pibby's growing resistance.
• It uses its influence over television to hijack programs meant for preschoolers to teach children in the real world incredibly dangerous "life lessons" that could get them and/or others killed, such as encouraging children to play in traffic, telling them to drink bleach instead of water since it is "cleaner" and falsely teaching children about "gun safety" (telling them that guns with orange tips were real guns and that guns without orange tips were toy guns).

What Prevents It from Being Pure Evil?[]

• The Darkness has numerous comedic moments with almost everything it says having some kind of outdated meme or internet reference/slang in it, such as calling its enemies "beta males" and "cringe", saying winning dialogue like "LMAO" and "lemme take a selfie" while watching its victims suffer, countering Pibby's arguments by saying "your mom" and "ratio", and saying "poggers" after assimilating its victims.
  • However, the Darkness is still taken extremely seriously in the context of the miniseries with the threat it poses, as well as the pain and misery it has brought to Pibby and the friends of its victims being treated with a lot of gravity and poignancy. In addition, its enslavement of fictional characters is played up as being genuinely horrifying and painful, so its comedic moments don't fully detract how evil it is, rendering this a minor prevention.
