“My mum and I used to sing ‘Hello’ in the car and pretend that 100,000 people were watching us. I always look back on those moments fondly,” Loi tells Apple Music of the Adele smash. “She once said that she wrote ‘Hello’ about her younger self. It was her older self speaking to her younger self, asking, ‘Who am I?’” Loi adds, “I often find these thoughts reflected in my own songs, where I think about my 13-year-old self, who doubted herself so much. It means that maybe, in our hearts, we’re a bit alike.” The German singer believes the Adele’s willingness to lay her feelings bare in “Hello” is important. “I think Adele is very vulnerable and emotional in this song, which, in turn, demonstrates great strength,” she explains. “I believe that women are often quickly perceived as weak or overly dramatic when they show emotions or express their feelings. Adele represents for every woman that showing vulnerability is not a weakness, but a strength.” Along with Adele, Loi also greatly admires Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga. “Both are incredibly strong and powerful women. They have been through so much, yet they always manage to find themselves again. And I absolutely love their music.”
