A rooster with black and brown feathers has appeared in multiple Sesame Street segments as early as 1991, first appearing in the Monsterpiece Theater skit, "The Sun Also Rises." In the insert, he could not crow due to a bad cough. Because of this, a farmer's daughter (Merry Monster) tells her father (played by Grover) that even if the rooster cannot crow, the sun still rises.
Since he is an AM rooster, multiple people have performed him. Performers include Kevin Clash (for the Monsterpiece Theater sketch), Jerry Nelson ("Barnyard Rap"), Jim Martin ("Barn in the USA" and Episode 3060), Martin P. Robinson ("A Cat Had a Birthday"), David Rudman (Episode 4011), and Joey Mazzarino (Food for Thought).
The puppet was also recycled for named characters such as Henny Drummschtick, Madame Alma Cluck, and Murray (in Episode 3623).
