COLD OPEN | Elmo and Abby set up today's theme of maps with the aid of a flower (Stephanie D'Abruzzo), who uses a map to find out "how to get to Sesame Street."
SCENE 1 | Elmo, Abby, Nina, and Charlie find Oscar in the midst of his annual "spring dusting," where he spreads dust all over his older pieces of trash. Charlie inspects a copy of "Anne of Grouch Gables," which belonged to Oscar's great grouchma, Yucky Mama. Inside the pages she finds a folded up map dating back to 1969. Oscar realizes this must be the rumored, but lost, map leading to her hidden treasure. The map seems to be of Sesame Street, and it magically highlights the 123 Sesame Street building, as the others notice it shows Oscar's trash can in its original place. The compass of the map magically reveals Yucky Mama herself, who gives them instructions on how to find her hidden treasure - they must follow the map to different places on Sesame Street and complete three grouchy challenges.
SCENE 1 cont'd | First, Yucky Mama tells them to go to the Fix-It Shop, a location long-forgotten and unknown by the group. Oscar leads the way to the laundromat, which currently occupies the space. Yucky Mama challenges them to look in the window and spot something broken. Fortunately, an old toaster has remained all these years and Charlie collects it (while briefly greeting Prairie Dawn).
SCENE 1 cont'd | Next, they must follow the map to the garage doors, another locale they're not familiar with. Oscar again takes the lead and they learn the origins of the community center building. Yucky Mama's challenge now is that they must dance the Grouch Cha-Cha, which Oscar begrudgingly teaches them.
SCENE 1 cont'd | The third and final landmark they must find are the construction doors leading to Big Bird's nest, which too are long gone. Oscar knows where they once were and takes them there, all while complaining about how many more nice (and annoying) birds have moved into the area as a result. Yucky Mama's challenge now is to find the lowest birdhouse in the area. They look inside the lowest one they find, but there's nothing inside. Nina believes that since these birdhouses are relatively new, they must look for one that's old. Sure enough, Elmo points to an older-looking birdhouse and behind it is Yucky Mama's treasure hidden within the wall! Oscar opens up the can and it magically causes trash to pour from the sky all over the street, to Oscar's delight. Nina remarks, "This treasure may be 50 years old...but some things on Sesame Street never change."
