SCENE 1 | Telly and Rosita welcome the viewer and are going to introduce the sponsors. Telly covers the number of the day (four) and prompts Rosita to reveal the letter of the day, but she doesn't know it. She goes to find out, leaving Telly alone. As he tries to make small talk with the viewer in the meantime, he hears a strange whistling sound. Ominous music plays and a large, sparkly X with black eyes emerges from Oscar's trash can area and hovers around the street sign (with a trail of smoke accompanying the letter). Rosita returns, having learned today's letter from Maria, but finds Telly in shock, stammering, "X...X...X!" and pointing to where the X once was. Rosita instead interprets his response as already knowing the letter.

The X thanks her, communicating now in full sentences. He clarifies that he's not from "somewhere else," but rather "the alphabet." He also reveals his "big black eyes" are in fact sunglasses (since Sesame Street is a sunny place). Now that he has a xylophone, he begins playing an X-Files-esque tune on the instrument, while Telly whistles along.

Notes[]
- John Tartaglia performs the letter X.
- The street story spoofs The X-Files. The music that accompanies Telly's X sightings is a musical reference to the X-Files theme.
- The street story also makes references to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, specifically Telly's mashed potato sculpture of the X, and the letter's rendition of the "Sesame Street Theme" utilizes a five-note pattern in the same manner as the film.
- During the last sighting, the X makes an in-joke using the Sesame Street theme song: when asked why it wears sunglasses, the letter mentions the bright light on the Street and sings the first few bars of the theme.
- At an event at the Museum of the Moving Image in 2015, Alan Muraoka revealed that this episode only aired once due to being too scary.[1] The episode would later air on Noggin and Sprout, however.
