"Animal Crackers in My Soup" is performed by Elke Sommer in episode 319 of The Muppet Show. She first attempts to sing it in a direct imitation of Shirley Temple, who originated the song, but Kermit says it doesn't fit the tone of the show and asks for something more "sophisticated". Her second attempt sees her singing it as a sultry ballad in the style of Marlene Dietrich, accompanied by a chorus line of Whatnots in tuxedoes, but Kermit says that, though well-performed, it's "not the way we would do it". She says that as a guest on the show, she's happy to do it the Muppet way, impressing Kermit with her accommodating nature - and her courage. The Muppet way turns out to be a surreal dance version in which she is accompanied by two Small Bossmen.
The song was also performed by Anne Murray on the album Anne Murray Sings for the Sesame Street Generation.
