സഹ്യവനങ്ങളിലും സമതലങ്ങളിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ചിത്രശലഭമാണ് നാട്ടുപൊട്ടൻ (Potanthus pseudomaesa).[1][2][3][4] ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലെ കുന്നുകളിലും ചെറുകാടുകളിലും ഇവയെ വല്ലപ്പോഴും കാണാൻ കഴിയും. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ വടക്കു-കിഴക്കൻ വനമേഖലകളും ശ്രീലങ്കയുമാണ് ഇവയുടെ പ്രധാന കേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ.
തെറിച്ചുതെറിച്ചാണിവ പറക്കുന്നത്. ഇടയ്ക്കിടെ വിശ്രമിക്കും. മിക്കപ്പോഴും ചിറകുകൾ പൂട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചാണ് ഇരിക്കുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ വെയിൽ കായുന്ന സമയത്ത് രണ്ടു ചിറകുകളും ലംബമായിരിക്കും. ഉയരത്തിൽ പറക്കാറില്ല.
ചിറകുകൾക്ക് തവിട്ട് നിറമാണ്. ചിറകിന്റെ പുറത്തും അടിവശത്തും ഓറഞ്��് നിറത്തിലുള്ള പുള്ളികൾ ഉണ്ട്. പിൻചിറകിന്റെ പുറത്ത് മഞ്ഞപ്പുള്ളികളാണുള്ളത്.
