The "Burenia Maw" is an unidentified creature depicted in the Chozo Archives of Metroid Dread.
Description[]
The "Burenia Maw" is an aquatic creature that dwells underwater. Since it is submerged, very little of the beast can be seen. Its one known feature is its large jaws with pink gums and sharp curved teeth. It opens its mouth above the water's surface in order to feed.
The creature appears to be kept in a round pool, located in a Mawkin facility in Burenia. Raven Beak oversaw executions of condemned Chozo, who were forcibly fed to the carnivorous beast. These sentenced Chozo were stripped of their armor and clothing, aside from a simple loincloth, before being prodded by loyal Chozo Soldiers into the creature's waiting jaws.
It is unknown what happened to the creature after the Mawkin tribe was wiped out by the X Parasite pandemic, since it is apparently never encountered by Samus Aran during her mission to ZDR, nor does she ever enter the room where it was kept.

- Although the Chozo Archives image 04 is assumed to depict Drogyga, this artwork portrays the "Burenia Maw" with prominent teeth lining its jaws, while Drogyga lacks any teeth or distinct jaws in its in-game model and Metroid Mission Logs concept artwork. While this does not preclude the possibility of the Chozo Archives depicting Drogyga with artistic license or a scrapped design, it does make the creature's identity much more uncertain.
