Area2 Add1 is played exclusively in Area 2, where it can be heard throughout most of the interior of the ruined Chozo hydroelectric power station where Samus Aran encounters her first Gamma Metroid.
Area2 Add1 is one of Daisuke Matsuoka's most ambient compositions in Samus Returns. The melody is performed slowly and quietly by high-pitched strings. Most of the track contains atmospheric effects, such as the sounds of running water and bubbling; harsh scraping ambience that may be a waterphone, similar to samples used in the Metroid: Other M soundtrack; and a low pulsing that somewhat resembles throat singing. The result gives this track an unsettling and desolate vibe.
