"Wiktionary" (et portmanteau af “wiki” og “dictionary”) er et projekt som går ud på at lave ordbøger med åbent indhold på alle sprog. Den første Wiktionary English language Wiktionary blev oprettet af Brion Vibber d. 12 December, 2002. Både den franske og polske sprogede Wiktionary fulgte op et par år efter d. 22 Marts, 2004 On May 1, 2004, Tim Starling initialized Wiktionaries in every language for which there was an existing Wikipedia, leading to 143 new Wiktionaries. The page “Requests for Wiktionary permissions” was created on May 2 so that stewards could deal with increase in permission requests by users needing administrator access on these new projects. This was later merged with “Requests for permissions”.
