Community Support
[edit]Community Survey
[edit]From March 20th to March 29th, WMAT conducted an anonymous survey among its community. 42 participants completed the survey. The results allow us to understand the requests and concerns of our community better and to adjust our strategy work, e.g. concerning our mission statement process. In general, the satisfaction with our work is high. We seem to be on the right track in facilitating and communicating with our community.
Individuals involved: 44 (active editors: 42, WMAT staff: 2).

Wiktionary Conference in Vienna
[edit]The community of the German-language Wiktionary is small but stable, cooperative and effective. Last year we met a very active Austrian Wiktionary contributor (he asked for a book grant) and two Austrians participated in last year's 2nd Wiktionary Conference in Berlin. This led to hosting the 3rd conference of the German-language Wiktionary in Austria. The conference premises were at the renowned Museumsquartier where we can use a room for free and at the WMAT office.
Workshops and discussions focussed on:
- the Wiktionary logo(s)
- user interface and editing gadgets
- Wikidata integration
- IPA and SAMPA
- meanings (tautologies etc.), deverbal nouns
- collocations
- word families
- Lexical Markup Framework
- a straw poll about the translation section
- thematic categories
- producing audio examples
- troll handling
- Survey after the conference
These are the results of an anonymous survey among the participants.

German WLM Kick-off in Wiesbaden
[edit]The Wiki Loves Monuments kick-off meeting for Germany took place in Wiesbaden, Hesse from 19th to 21st March. The meeting as a whole was supported by WMDE. WMAT offered a travel grant for an experienced Austrian volunteer who was an expert in the highly developed organization of Wiki Loves Monuments in Austria. The documentation of protected monuments for Wikipedia (in texts and images) is more advanced in Austria than in Germany. This is partly because of different political responsibilties: whereas in Austria the protection of monuments is centralized by the federal government, in Germany the different federal states are responsible. The Austrian volunteer explained to four representatives of the Monuments Office of Hesse, including the acting president, why the excellent cooperation between Wikimedia/Wikipedia and the Austrian Federal Monuments Office could serve as best practice for Hesse. In addition, he was able to share his knowledge about important technical aspects of Wiki Loves Monuments with the Germans.
Individuals involved: 16 (active editors: 10, WMDE staff: 2, Monuments Office of Hesse representatives: 4) – WMAT support: 1 travel grant.

Reach / Free Knowledge Awareness
[edit]School workshops in Ziersdorf
[edit]An Austrian volunteer conducted Wikipedia school workshops at the Lower Austrian village of Sitzendorf in January and in February. The success of these workshops got around in the district and the Wikimedian was invited to another school in the village of Ziersdorf close to Sitzendorf. He did two 100 minutes workshops for 14 teenagers there. They focussed on media literacy concerning WIkipedia and free knowledge and had a sustainable impact: some of the pupils and their teacher will continue working on the Wikipedia article about the Ziersdorf church (writing and providing pictures) on their own.
Individuals involved: 16 (active editors: 1, 14 pupils including 9 new editors, 1 teacher). – WMAT support: information material, give-aways.
