Goals

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? While the project fell short of its intended goals, I am pleased with how the physical, online trainings went. Physical workshops and online sessions provided participants with a solid foundation to learn about wiki tourism and its possibilities. Participation in the training was encouraging, and interest from participants was positive.

Outcome

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Learning

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

Both the physical and online aspects of the project were successful. I led fitness workshops, and co-hosted online training sessions with Mr. Snatch. Both programs were well received by the participants, who appreciated the opportunity to learn about contributing to WikiTour. The combined efforts made these meetings productive and enjoyable.

  • What did not work so well?

One of the challenges is that Wikivoyage is a new project for Hausas. Many Hausa Wikimedians are hesitant to contribute in English. This fear stemmed from anxiety about making mistakes and the possibility of being held back, which discouraged some participants from actively offering help.

While the goal of edited articles was achieved, the goal of creating new articles was not achieved. This was mainly due to the lack of English proficiency of the participants. However, I have found them to be very confident and willing to contribute resources in Hausa.

  • What would you do differently next time?

In the future, I plan to continue encouraging participants to contribute to English content on Wikimedia projects. I will work to dispel their fears of being blocked and motivate them to engage in discussions to improve their contributions. Additionally, I will focus more on organizing projects aimed at improving Hausa content, as this aligns better with the strengths and preferences of the community.

This project has been a valuable learning experience, and I am optimistic about further empowering the Hausa community to actively participate in Wikimedia projects.
