A wasp was a type of flying insect animal lifeform, known for its ability to sting in some circumstances. Different classifications of wasps were found on numerous planets, including Earth. Varieties of wasps were also known as hornets or yellowjackets, and were related to bees.

Starships and vehicles named Wasp, Yellowjacket and Hornet were so designated as a reflection of the dangerous strength these creatures possess.
