For the mirror universe counterpart, see ISS Sutherland.
For other uses, see Sutherland.

The USS Sutherland (NCC-91800) was a 25th century Federation science vessel, prototype for the Sutherland-class advanced research vessel starship in Starfleet service in the 2400s[2] and 2410s decades. The ship was based on the 24th century Nebula-class starship USS Sutherland. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

History[]

Sutherland class

The Sutherland in 2410.

Following the ravages of the Iconian War in 2410, the Khitomer Alliance tasked the Advanced Starship Design Bureau to replace the spacecraft losses suffered by Alliance fleets. (STO Issue 05: "U.S.S. Buran NCC-96400")

Starfleet, the Klingon Defense Force and the Romulan Republic Navy cooperated in the development of new tier 6 advanced research vessels, based on the Nebula-class science vessel and existing sister classes. The Sutherland represented the Federation's Sutherland class. It's KDF counterpart was the Naj'Sov-class research vessel IKS Naj'Sov. The RRF fielded the RRW Laeosa, prototype of the Laeosa-class research warbird. (STO website: Agents of Yesterday: Science Modern Bundle Announcement)

Each of the three prototypes was equipped with the new tachyon particle field console. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

The hull of the Sutherland consisted of Andromeda-class components in a Nebula-class configuration. The exploration cruiser USS Andromeda had been launched in 2409 and proven successful. (STO Issue 03: "U.S.S. Andromeda NCC-92100")

The USS Sutherland could be deployed by the admiralty for assignments with other ships. (STO video game: New Dawn game mechanic: "Admiralty System")

In Starfleet Shipyards Operations shipyard interfaces, the Sutherland visually represented its class from 2410 onwards. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
