The Tanuga IV research station was a 24th century Federation R1 Investigator-class space station laboratory located in orbit of the planet Tanuga IV.
Service history[]
The facility was used to build an energy converter and study theoretical Krieger waves under the direction of Doctor Nel Apgar. It had guest quarters. An associated surface installation contained computers and a lambda field power generator.
In 2366, the USS Enterprise-D delivered a shipment of dicosilium to the station that would be used for building large reflective energy coils. Commander William T. Riker stayed aboard the station overnight. When he beamed back to the starship, an accident overloaded the station's reactor core, destroying the station and killing Dr. Apgar, the only one aboard at that moment.
Using surface installation records of the orbital facility's schematics, Data, Geordi La Forge and Wesley Crusher spent 18 hours recreating the science station in the starship's holodeck. The simulation eventually demonstrated that Apgar's equipment could produce Kriegar waves and cleared Riker of wrongdoing during an investigation by Tanugan investigator Krag.
